1956 was a big year. After Ike put a stop to the French, Israeli, and British attempt to secure the Suez Canal, the French, Brits and Israelis effectively said "The Middle East is now your problem Mr. US of A." And it continues to be so despite our best efforts to dodge that responsibility.
