Mothers like this are far more common than anyone wants to admit. Mine is spot on identical but met the perp at church instead of prison.

I was old enough to have moved away but other siblings were not so lucky. We found out later that over the course of several years he abused a sibling starting at 8 and onward. Mom found out and didn't report it and allowed it to continue.

In the end she lied on the perps behalf and got the crime to house arrest for the perp. During the fallout we still believed her and only later found out she saved him from what was according to the penal code of that state a capital offense ( though life would have been the sentence ).

I have sympathy for your situation and pray for your family. I know there are lots of screwed up families. Acceptance of that as the norm still isn't something I think is good though.
