I posted this for two reasons: first, I think it is very significant that major editorial cartoonists are ridiculing the "newspaper of record," this is not just a Rovian attack by the rightwing noise machine. Second, I happen to believe making a laughingstock of the New York Times is the worst thing we can do to it. Trying it for treason only makes it a martyr for the freedom of the press and makes the Administration look fascistic. In this case, we should be following the sage advice of the late Lee Atwater, who said when your opponent is committing political suicide, don't save him - just get out of the way.
