CA: Another union reaches a deal - IUOE

Highway maintenance workers, heavy equipment operators and other members of their union .. reach .. tentative contract agreement with the state.

The Department of Personnel Administration announced the accord Friday. Under terms of the agreement, the estimated 12,000 members of the International Union of Operating Engineers .. receive a 3.5 percent pay raise effective today and a 2 percent to 4 percent raise on July 1, 2007, depending on the cost of living.

Employees in the union, .. who work for Highway Patrol .. departments of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Transportation, Water Resources and General Services also would get a one-time payment of $1,000, .. The workers have not received a raise since July 1, 2003.

The contract also calls for a new pension calculation based on a three-year average rather than the employees' highest single year. Survivors of road workers killed in the line of duty would be in line for death benefits. ..

No problem, an easy "negotiation", when you have a state government that panders to the union vote.

That's a good thing for taxpayers! Now... how about reducing the benefit levels?
