I think in the case of the Cubs, the GM is the main issue. You can't fault the manager when he has poor talent to deal with. Jim Leland is doing some good things in Detroit this year and look at the awful year he had last year. The manager gets a great deal of the blame, but if you don't have the horses, you aren't going to win.
Say what you will about the White Sox, but the GM is aggressive in bringing fresh talent to the team. The better teams are always pursuing the best talent. It almost reminds me of the days the Cubs were owned by old man Wrigley. He was just too cheap to go out and get the best.
Wow. I am watching the Cubs/Sox game and watched Baker make an extraordary stupid managers decision. Just cost the Cubs a run. (3rd inning) Maybe you guys do need another manager.
