great idea! Poor baby......

It is not about being infallible. It is about making your children your top priority, nothing more, nothing less. Absolute bullshit. It's about a bunch of voyeuristic twits taking great glee in convincing themselves they're perfect when they condemn the mistakes of others. Save your sanctimony.

Day care is stimulating for a THREE MONTH OLD?
Sometimes life throws people a curve ball with regards to finances. Doesn't change the fact that young kids do best with their own Mom, as convenient as that might be.
To: NEMDF
3k a month????? What the heck are you feeding those (hypothetical) kids? Stake every night? I could probably live of 1700 a month if I had to without changing anything but eating, spending, and saving habits. That would not pay things like 401k and student loans but I am talking rock bottom. Would not even have to give up the cell phone and the cable modem. If people need two full time working parents to raise one kid they should move or look really hard at their REAL priorities.

True. It doesn't work if you're the mother going into a bar. As what happened not too long ago.
To: Jeff Chandler
...but almost without exception the parents who outsource their parental responsibilities to strangers are those whose priorities are themselves, their material possessions, and their social life. Their children are merely accessories to their lifestyles. That's a pretty broad brush you got there, Jeff. You've interviewed that many daycare users? How about those such as myself that use a family day care (residential house) a few days a week? Is my child now merely an accessory?
I suppose if I carried a briefcase full of cash in the back seat of my car every single day, then yes, I may forget it once. Now I'm a monster too.

It is about making your children your top priority, nothing more, nothing less.Exactly.

Accessories! Exactly right. Too many women think of the kid as just another possession. I don't know the woman in question here, but- as a woman- I will call this nothing less than criminal neglect. Accidental or othewise, the damage is the same. How is this different than negligent homicide? The neglect causing the death of someone-in this case her own baby. Criminal neglect, or criminal stupidity.
Bottom line, IMO, people who 'forget' babies in cars, causing the babies death, should be sterilized at the least, charged with negligent homicide at the most.( Men or women)
For God's sake, if you had a dog and your neglect caused its death, you would be charged and wouldn't be allowed to own animals anymore. Even if the baby is your own 'property', why is a child's death less than your pets?

This kind- the kind who had to chose between serving her country- and oh btw you too- or staying at home with the baby. I chose a reputable caregiver.
Monster indeed. How's life in that glass house nirvana of yours?

so anybody who has their child at day care is a monster- Who do you people think you are! done with freerepublic, unfortunately-I'm tired of the constant judgement by people here. Not every body makes a million bucks I understand your response. It does seem there's a lot of knee-jerk judgments in FR lately...or maybe I;m just noticing it more? But it IS disheartening
I cannot even imagine the torture this mother is - and will forever - going through. I think I would literally loose my mind. But there has not been even one post about this possibility. The worst are the posts of condemnation from people who have never been parents...
I would guess these people aren't Christians, or so in name only, or one's who don't see any problem with breaking commandments or aren't afraid of living dangerously? (Thou shalt not judge LEST YE BE JUDGED...) \

I know a couple who does it. He brings home about 2,000.00 a month after taxes and insurance. He drives a 1988 Nissan and she drives a 1996 Grand Am. House is about 1600 square feet and they have a nice back yard for the kids to play in. They make it work and when the kids are in school, she may work part time during the school year for extra money.
It is all about sacrifice.

What kind of monster would enroll a 5-month old in day care? Maybe someone who's not taking the welfare payments you'll bitch about on another thread.

"This thread is a marvel of infallible spectators."
Amen. I wonder if it get tiresome being perfect and never a worry that they'll be the next one in a news article discussed on FR.
Not everyone wants to be a full-time stay at home parent and this does not means one intentially harms their children by leaving them in a car. I am not a feminist nazi, but I do believe satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment for an individual comes from a variety of source. I've been a full-time working mom and and full-time stay at home mom while raising my children. Neither of these options was completely fulfilling but a balance between the two was.

Not only are babies supposed to be in the back seat, but their seats are rear-facing, so you can't see the baby. If the baby falls asleep, I can see how she might have zoned out on her way to work -- especially if she were just getting back to work after some leave time. It is an awful story -- very sad.
To: yellowdoghunter
I was fortunate to be able to be a stay-at-home Mom. It was a rare treat, that not everyone gets. Most parents have more stress in their lives than I had. Stressed parents make some pretty big mistakes. I have been stressed enough to forget very important things. I was usually fortunate not to suffer the worst consequences.

You really appreciate how little sleep the parents of new borns are allowed. It is retarded to expect the mother of a new born to work a full time job.The baby keeps the mother up most of the night. It is a wonder she did not fall asleep driving the car. On second thought it would have been better if Mommy had been injured badly enough to put her career on hold.

Mrs. Chandler posits the question: would she have forgotten a briefcase full of cash in the back seat?
HAH! A very very good question.

I think it's termed a "Mommy drive-by". Basically the self-righteous opinions of close-minded people.
