Cannon defeated businessman John Jacob 56 percent to 44 percent on Tuesday after Jacob, an opponent of Bush's immigration plan, tried to make the race a referendum on the issue.

That's not a very convincing win by a 5 term incumbent in his own party's primary.

Yes it is Mr/Ms. PC, especially when the tancredo/bay buchanan PAC put $50,000 into trying to defeat Cannon and the massive local and national press the primary race got.

Oh BTW, turnout was very low, the tancredo/bay buchanan PAC held a referendum on immigration in one of the most conservative districts in the US and nobody came.

"That's not a very convincing win by a 5 term incumbent in his own party's primary."

Further, the incumbent has an envious lifetime ACU approaching 100.

Yet he stands with Bush, wanting a "compromise" on immigration. His 56 to 44 percent win is simply evidence the Republican party is SPLIT on this issue.

Pence tried to put something forth that bridges the difference between the Senate and House bills. Specter has indicated he would move in the direction of some House provisions.

The nastiness used to attack Cannon, an otherwise rock-rib-solid conservative went way, way beyond Reagan's 11th Commandment.

Reagan's 11th Commandment is fading out of memory. That is too bad.
