Rice to Israel: ‘Show Restraint’
Arutz 7 ^ | June 29, 2006 | Staff

(IsraelNN.com) United States Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice joined the G8 industrialized nations group in calling for restraint by IDF forces that entered Gaza to rescue a soldier who was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists on Sunday.

Rice added that diplomatic officials continue to work toward obtaining the release of 19-year-old Corporal Gilad Shalit, who was taken hostage during the raid on an IDF outpost near the Kerem Shalom border crossing. Two soldiers were killed and four others wounded in the attack.

Shalit’s whereabouts are unknown and his captors refuse to return him.

"Israel to Rice:
You fight your way, we'll fight ours.
With both hands."

What a great quote.........nice, very nice and sadly very true.

What do you mean America did not show restraint? We did NOTHING but search like we would search for a kidnapped child.

Of course. But does she REALLY believe it, or is she just a good lieutenant?

THAT is the question.

I wonder what Bush's reply would have been if Israel had told us to "show restraint" after 9/11?

Gosh... haven't we?!?!?!?

I am still waiting for a response regarding our soldiers as well. I'll say it over and over again, unless we put the screws to the muslims this will never end. Restraint my a$$, the only thing these animals respect and understand is an iron fist rammed down their murderous throats. Sorry, you can't reason with people who want you DEAD!!!!!

Let's see, so here I am, in my house. I have this really big locked fence around it. I'm minding my own business.

Some people TUNNEL under the fence, and kidnap three of my kids. They kill two and taunt me about the third.

And I'm supposed to 'show restraint'.

This administration boggles the mind sometimes.

Actually the question is do you believe, as you stated when you thought Condi was setting US policy:

"If these represent her PERSONAL thoughts, she is an unfit candidate for President."

that this should apply to the president as well?

Though I like Condi, they'll probably, in so many words, tell her to stuff it, as they should.

Do take note .. Condi didn't tell them to stop

If we are truly going to fight a war on terror then we have to fight all of the terrorist states, Iran, Syria, Iraq, Afganistan, and whoever else. They have brought this on themselves. You cannot be diplomatic with them, they don't understand the concept. If your house was infested with roaches you wouldn't kill them off one at a time, you'd set a bomb off and keep doing it until they were all gone. The fact that we acknowledge Palestine as a nation proves terrorism works.

Being fair is siding with the Israelis.

That's why I said "appear to be fair."

Since the Europeans and the Third World are Palestinian allies, the US has to make these perfunctory declarations to keep his role as the only honest broker between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

The Israeli government knows that it has green light from Washington to do it has to do.

I saw five or so episodes of the lousy and now canceled ABC show Commander in Chief.

There were some pro-Palestinian sentiments in the earlier episodes.

In the last episode I saw, the Donald Sutherland, Speaker of the House character (supposedly a Republican) temporarily becomes President for a day.

In a brief scene an aid tells him that some fighting has just broken out between Israel and Arabs. The aid asks whether the State Dept should issue the usual seeking restraint on the sides statement.

He replies something like "No. The Israelis are our friends and they can do whatever they need to defend themselves".

Unfortunately- a fantasy.

"I'm simply baffled that so many here haven't learned that by now."

Me too. It is also very disturbing that many opining on this thread do not understand the difference between encouraging restraint in the public view and the complete and total support the US gives Israel in actuality. The US cannot be seen to be cheerleading a major strike against the Palestinians. At the same time, I seriously doubt that the US will condemn any action that Israel deems necessary.

"The fact that we acknowledge Palestine as a nation proves terrorism works."

That and the fact that we gave the Palestinians $50 million in US tax dollars so far this year. Money that you know will find it's way into the hands of terrorists who are sworn enemies of the US.
