Ramón "Moncho" Velasco, former campaign treasurer for [Governor] Aníbal Acevedo Vilá, was summoned to FBI offices today in relation to the Grand Jury's investigation into donations the former Resident Commissioner's campaign committee received in 2002, sources to EL VOCERO confirmed.

EL VOCERO sources point out that the federal authorities are investigating how much the Governor knew and his participation in [the collection of] donations for his political campaign. Since the federal investigation into the Acevedo campaign's collection of electoral funds became public, Popular Democratic Party officials have said that they do not know Velasco's whereabouts.

Federal Elections Commission reports obtained by EL VOCERO indicate that Velasco had agreed to return over $106,000 to contributors who donated in excess.

The FBI has affirmed that it has jurisdiction to investigate violations by elected officials and, specifically, to conduct investigations of violations to federal-campaign finance laws.

It has been reported that Democrat businessman Robert Feldman and his partner Cándido Negrón allegedly solicited donations for the Chief Executive's campaign committee.

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Feldman and Negrón, who are partners in a dental company, would solicit the donations and then attribute them to associates of theirs.

Whenever I think Maryland must have the most corrupt politicians in the country, somebody comes along and reminds me that Democrats are just as crooked in other places. Massachusetts, Louisiana and Puerto Rico are notable for sharing in the same "culture of corruption" as Maryland - the common thread: Democrat control!

Ironic that the PPD ran and won on a platform that promised the end of corruption in government.
