No need to rethink the first amendment. Might as well rethink the second one while you're at it. Waiting periods to buy an NYT. No more than one magazine supscrciption a month. Registration of reporters. Do we really want that in a free country?

There are ways to put the screws to Pinch's boys without violating the First Amendment. The feds can subpoena the editor Keller and his reporters and compel them to give up the person who leaked to the NYT in the first place, and then prosecute the leaker (Newt Gingrich's suggestion). I also supsect there might be a civil (lawsuit) remedy somewhere in the government's arsenal for the indiscretions of the NYT, WSJ, and LAT.

We need to rethink the 1st Amend because of the Times in the same way we need to rethink the 2nd Amend every time some guy uses a handgun to knock over a 7-11. In other words, not at all.
