Ooh please add me! We just got stationed in San Diego again and my son is starting Kindergarten and I hate these public schools here! I looked at private schools and OMGosh we can't afford it! The costs are outrageous and I'm nearly desperate. lol I don't even know where to start. I have a girlfriend who home schools, but she's in AZ and the laws vary from state to state right? Any information you guys can give me I would greatly appreciate!

You might want to go to the HSLDA website to find out more www.hslda.org
Also, there might be some links to homeschool parents and support groups in your area at the HSLDA site. If not, try a google search. I've noticed that homeschoolers tend to rely on each other for advice, team teaching, etc.

I homeschooled in San Diego County for many years. We signed up with a private school and homeschooled under its "independent study" program. That kept us under the radar of snooping state authorities, because as far as they knew, our children were enrolled in the private school. It's a popular option, and avoids filing an affidavit with the state.
You might start here: San Diego Home Schooling.
