AMC's "Broken Trail" was number one in the ratings Sunday night, besting everything on cable and network television. But it wasn't just the American public who loved the Robert Duvall-toplined Western-the pic was also a hit with President Bush. The movie's star (and Presidential pal) screened the pic at the White House on June 11 and sources say the President enjoyed it. "He was joking during the screening and in good spirits," says one person in attendance.

Duvall is perfect as a cowboy.

Best actor ever.

We all have our favorites, and I wouldn't try to disabuse you of yours. But to me James Stewart was the best ever.

When the American Film Institute published it's list of the 100 best actors of the 20th Century, they had Humphrey Bogart first, Cary Grant second, and James Stewart third. I would have reversed Stewart and Bogart. In fact, being a huge fan of John Wayne, I wouldn't have put Bogart in the top three. Duvall was on the list, but I don't remember at what spot.

I guess Broken Trail doesn't lead up Brokeback Mountain.

I never "got" Brando. Sorry, even "On the Waterfront" or Streetcar" which are supposed to be landmarks. He seems stiff ,stilted and indifferent. So sue me.

Broken Trail was a great movie. I was almost late to my softball game Monday night because I had to watch part 2.
Robert Duvall makes his characters very likable and believable. I hope he continues to make Westerns.

Open Range was far, far better.

Broken trail was OK.

Duvall is terrific. Always has been.

I concur. I found Hagen to be the most intruiging character in the Godfather I and II.

Just looking at the movie poster 'bout makes me wanna cry.

Me too.

I don't think a movie like that (made in 1982) would survive Hollywood's censors today. If "The Passion of the Christ" is any gage, they would would have hauled that movie over bloody glass and trashed every actor that played in it.

We recently rented a little known film called "Secondhand Lions". It stars Duvall, Michael Caine and Haley Joel Osment. It was really a wonderful heart warming family movie. There are so few movies these days that the whole family can sit down together and enjoy.

Just saw it. Awesome, and yes, Annette Bening is a total absolute babe in it, with no makeup. One of the best shootouts ever, right up there with The Sons of Katie Elder.
