If they didn't release anything heavy when they did it then they just wasted perfectly good fuel.

I thought I heard that Israel was insisting that Syria expel the Hamas leader they are guarding, Mashaal.
Perhaps this is meant to put some emphasis behind that "request".

It is also thought the Meshal orchestrated this recent attack and kidnapping and want to hold him personally responsible, only thing is Syria and Assad are harboring him, hence the flyover and if they are not careful there may be bombs on those birds for the next flyover

Well they did do it at least once before, right over Assad's summer residence. Don't know about any other cases inside Syria itself, but I was remembering this one from '03:

Israeli F-16s buzz Syrian president's palace as warning to Syria
Monday, August 18, 2003
Israeli F-16s buzzed the summer residence of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad early on Aug. 11th, as a warning that Israel holds Damascus responsible for the recent flare-up on its northern border.

Still, a serious warning. Let's see. The Palestinians threaten chemical and biological warfare. The Iraqi WMD (which, of course, never existed) were taken to Syria by the Russians. Now . . .

You're probably right. WMD's are most likely at the heart of this 'message'.

Sounds like the Massad has traced any possible WMD's in the hands of Pali thugs to Assad.
One can only imagine what was said to him behind closed doors, like, "The minute, a WMD is used on/in Israel, is the beginning of your end on earth, your family's and friends will be going with you!"

I don't get it- why now?
After all the crap for so many years, what is making Israel go so berzerk? What haven't they had to deal with before?
Anybody have any serious insight? What is this really about?

This hostage-taking just didn't work out the way Hamas thought it would. Israel has exchanged prisoners for hostages in the past. Hamas thought they could do it again. Good thing Olmert has a set of brass ones. This will probably be the last kidnapping of an Israeli citizen for quite some time.
From the Israel PM website:
PM Olmert: “It is our right to enter any place necessary to defend the citizens of Israel”

We know the desert trash Palis didn't develop WMDs if they have any.
They would have come from Syria and previously belonged to $addam and his fellow serial killers.
