I am not sure why you think a corrupt GOP incumbent is more likely to win a competitive district than a non-corrupt non incumbent. In any event, it's original. :)
My contention is that ideological voters are more likely to defend either corrupt or even schloratic representatives instead of voting for someone outside of their ideology.
And with the current alignment, it's even more stark.
