As a wise person once said, "True believers don't realize how scary a guy like Tancredo seems to the average voter. Even conservatives."
This show down has been coming for a long time now. Tancredo, the buchanan's and the "borders are the only thing" crowd decided to make the Utah race a national referendum on the issue. They can editorialize this huge loss all they want, on this evening in Utah the issue was put into it's proper perspective.
Next will come what becomes of Tancredo. I'd say there is a good chance of him following in the buchanan foot steps after this.

It happens to all of us who start to believe our own press releases. Tancredo became the one issue guy and he will die by that sword. It's sad really, because I think he could have done better and that it didn't have to be this way.
In American politics, no man can work alone, outside and apart from the system and be powerful. The founders INTENDED for it to be that way as a moderating factor. In the end, it is exactly what toasted Buchanan.

He got his referendum on the issue and got waxed. This was both stupid and unfortunate. By overplaying a mediocre hand, Tancredo just handed McCain, Kennedy and Specter a huge box of ammo with which to walk into the reconciliation meetings over the immigration bill.
