58 Fireworks Cars Seized (No trial, no appeal – Celebrate freedom this Independence Day)

Followup to N.Y. Cops In Pa. Fireworks Stakeouts (NYPD seizes cars of NYers who legally buy fireworks in PA)

New Yorkers are learning the hard way that an initiative to keep July 4th firecrackers out of the city means just what the warning signs on the highway say: "Transport fireworks, lose your vehicle."

The NYPD has now corralled 58 vehicles under Mayor Bloomberg's fireworks crackdown, officials said...

To get the message out, the city has eight 9-by-12-foot electronic signs that are rolled around the five boroughs and placed primarily at highways, bridges and tunnels.

"We're doing this to deter people from transporting illegal fireworks," said a law-enforcement source.

Police said 161 calls had been made to 311 during the initiative, although it is not clear how many calls led directly to vehicle seizures.

The mayor's office said more than 770 cases of illegal fireworks have been confiscated by the NYPD Vice Enforcement Division in conjunction with the city's Joint Fireworks Taskforce and more than 60 people have been arrested for possessing or trafficking illegal fireworks.

I can't wait until Tuesdsay to experience it again!

For some of us, the sounds of the fireworks evoke memories of far away lands. That's one sleeping dog I'd prefer to not wake up. Think I'll be spending the majority of Tuesday evening sitting inside with headphones on, listening to some music. No fireworks display for me, thank you.

I'm not a FReeper *guy,* I'm a female - and I love, love, love fireworks and can't get enough of them. Mine don't really go *boom,* they light up the sky with beautiful showers of sparkles.

Sometimes they boom, too.

I don't believe it's a girl/guy thing at all.

I was stuck on the GW bridge for about an hour because they were pulling over cars and vans searching for fireworks.

Does anyone know if this is constitutionally legal?

This is one issue that's a female/male thing. What is the attraction of lighting things off that go boom? I, as a woman, don't get it.

You'd have to ask my wife. She's the one who used to blow things up and still fantasizes about it.

In most jurisdictions, fireworks are legal.

But the same states whose solution to gun crime is to disarm all citizens - like New Jersey and New York, outlaw fireworks across the board.

Mentioning that RINO Democrat-in-Republican-clothnig pansey Bloomberg explains it all.

He's as much of a fascist as his predecessor.

I love those little tanks! You can buy them by the box in New Mexico - dozens at a time. I love the way they "charge" forward.

They inspired my friend one time to glue some of those spinning daisy fireworks things to the tires of a GI Joe Jeep and self-propel it down the runway of the hangar where we were shooting our fireworks (not stupid, were we?).

I worked several times, but "he" being a "he," would not rest until we blew the Jeep up, so we did.

Now, about those "Chickens Laying Eggs" - I love those, too!

>>Can a FREEPER guy please say it in a way that I can understand?<<

No, not if you are female. It would be like trying to explain the joy of sex to a five year old. You might understand the mechanics, but never the motivation. The female mind is just not wired that way.

That's ok. We men aren't maternal either.

Fireworks bans are downright silly in NYC

I'm not real knowledgeable of NYC area, but it sounds like they are shutting off the heavily populated areas where there aren't really any large open areas where fireworks could safely be set off. If that's the case, then I think the authorities are right. No one wants to sit in their living room and have fireworks coming through the window.

A) It simulates danger in a semi-safe way
B) It makes yourself known in a loud manner.
C) There is a certain art involved in the creation of pyrotechnics.

This guy used legal fireworks to spice up the 4th.

http://www.seanbaby.com/personal/fireworks.htm

I prefer the bootlegged ones from South Carolina.

Mortars are cool. Too bad they are illegal in VA.

Artillery shells with the reusable mortar launcher are the only ones I buy anymore - 6-8 to a box and "4 free with purchase of 1" the best value, lol.

I do get a bunch of the "littles" but nothing in between. Fountains are boring - but those little 48-shot or 144-shot box things (not sure what they're called) are also fun - whistlers and sparkles and booms - lol, sometimes they become "directional," too.
