You are not going to find a meaningful definition of what a Conservative is from a dictionary that is inherently political in its scope. That is like going to ask an atheist about God.
Your reliance on such desktop reference material much of which originates from the left-leaning universities shows an astonishingly high degree of gullibility and naivete.
For example Merriam-Webster which you cite (by the way it is called Merriam-Webster, not Mirriam-Webster) lo and behold is Massachusetts-based.
"There are conservatives, moderates and liberals in all religions, and even among people who are not religious at all."
People can self-define themselves however they wish as we have seen in this thread. By the standard of no standards that have been presented here Michael Moore can call himself a Conservative, Bill Clinton is a huge Conservative, or Jimmy Carter who talks complete trash about the Republican President Bush while on the other hand I have never heard President Bush say a mean word about anybody.
It is up to thinking people to differentiate between the grain and the chaf, otherwise they risk being led by the nose from some Massachusetts-based desktop reference company.
You have given your misguided led-by the nose opinion and I do appreciate it because it afforded me an opportunity to destroy the idea that an honest definition of Conservatism can be found from what is in effect a leftist reference book from Massachusetts. While on the other hand I have already gone to great lengths in explaining what Conservatism is... and unfortunately there is always going to be a non-substantive response from a person having trouble expressing a self-originated coherent thought rather than "What?!" and thus I will just let my previous posts on the subject continue to speak for themselves untarnished.
It does mention that you should carry narcotics and potentially addictive drugs in their original container, but Viagra, to my knowledge, does not fit those categories. Nor does it say that it is a violation of any law if you carry other substances in other containers.
Narcotics and potentially addictive drugs I can see but Viagra? Still don't see where carrying Viagra in anything but its original container is a violation of any laws.
(1) You are an astoundingly sanctimonious twit.
(2) Your thinking is so narrow and constrained as to be thinner than a human hair. Horrors! The company which produces the Merriam-Webster dictionary is located in Massachusetts. Ipso facto, they MUST be "liberal." Way to go, genius.
(3) You may wish to define English language words any way you dang well please, but you still can't change the facts of their meaning. All you're doing by your attempt is to reveal just what a pinched ignoramous you are --"some Massachusetts-based desktop reference company," indeed. It's a dictionary, an old and respected one. But then, your disdain for dictionaries is quite clear from your posts.
Based on that definition, a conservative is someone who wants to preserve the existing order, whatever it might be at any point in time at any place in the world.
It probably isn't. But think about 1. getting off a private jet, 2. from the dominican republic, 3. with a bottle of pills not in your name. You should expect to be stopped. Now, whether its a violation of his deal is something else.
Doubt it, they weren't in his name.
Seems like an oxymoron to me.
Rush may be able to communicate with half his brain tied behind his back but you should stop trying it.
The root of the words conservatism and conservative is conserve, in other words to preserve. In any society or human endeavor, conservatives are traditionalists who resist change. That's the meaning of the term.
If I understand your above sentence correctly, where you go wrong is in your second clause. It isn't correct to say that conservatives want to preserve the existing order any place in the world at any time. It is correct to say that conservatives want to preserve the traditions of their own cultures and societies.
In the United States, when used as a political term, a conservative wants to preserve the Constitution, our system of government, our sovereignty, what are thought to be traditional American values (some people express it as Judeo-Christian values), human life, and so on.
Not surprising since he's on probation.
"Not surprising since he's on probation."
Not surprising because liberals infest the government and routinely abuse its powers for political purposes, such as the entire Rush fiasco in the first place, Hillary's raid of FBI files, selective CIA leaks to the NYT, IRS selective audits of Clinton critics, etc.
"We believe there may be a second degree misdemeanor violation, which is possession of certain drugs without a prescription, because the bottle does not have his name on it," Miller, a former FBI agent, said.
Why do they "believe" that?
Is the FBI so stupid as to not know that Viagra DOES NOT fall into that category?
They WERE in the bottle they came in...(reading is FUNdamental)
Fantastic! May I quote?
You sure can. Go right ahead.
