Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel

Ailes 'Fuming' at Fox News Channel

Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes is reportedly "on the warpath” about his network’s recent ratings slide – and has given notice to staffers that he’s willing to clean house, according to a report in Broadcasting & Cable.

The cable news channel’s overall prime-time ratings are off 8 percent in the second quarter of this year, and down 22 percent in viewers ages 25 to 54. The first quarter was also disappointing.

Rival CNN is also down, but only 2 percent overall in the second quarter and 18 percent in the 25-54 age group.

Ailes is said to be "fuming” over what he views as complacency among staffers, according to B&C.

He feels production values are slipping and bookers aren’t aggressive enough, relying too heavily on the same faces.

A full-page "Now Hiring” ad that ran recently in a trade magazine asked, "Can you make the cut?”

Broadcasting & Cable reports that a Fox staffer said the question was not addressed to outside applicants. "That was aimed inside.”

An Ailes spokesman declared: "Anyone who displays launch-type intensity will continue to have a job at Fox News. Those who don’t will not. And that includes talent.”

Fox is slipping because it forgot the produce NEWS.

All they're doing now is boring us to death with a whole lot of so-called guest experts (read idiots).

I sure walked out on Fox.......I return for Shepard Smith. The rest is pure trash. Like zero news about what's actually happening in Iraq and Afghanistan.......and zero contact with our troops overthere, which I find totally unforgivable.

I think she's is nuts. She's still returning to Aruba re: Natalie. Rita Cosby now at MSNBC isn't all there any more herself. There was serious news the other night and she was galavanting around with the American Idol on tour and talk about giddy.

I like Mike and Julia and that's about it but I don't watch them regularly on Dayside. (Linda Vester had another child and never came back from maternity leave in 2005?) She was startin' to act goofy herself.

IMO, Laura Ingraham is the only one who has brains and a sense of humor. Fox should hire her.

I've met Hannity. He's right about the border but outside of that, he gives preferential treatment to his friends like Mark Fuhrman - there are backroom deals re: books, etc. I'm over all of that.

Maybe he can end the "No Star Fridays."

No Hannity, No Hume, No Oreilly, no....they don't do Fridays. It's a 4 day work week.

Maybe all those radio programs have them spread too thin.

Remember when Arthel Neville was on The Factor? It was more fun to watch then being that her brothers are the Neville brothers. It would help him to have a chick on again.

I wonder how Glenn Beck is doing on Headline News on CNN at night. The problem w/Beck is that he's a new show at night and he's taken so much time off it's ridiculous. Diane Diamond filled in for Glenn last night. So, Diane Diamond works for CNN now too? Glenn's program is neither serious or funny. I think they need to decide what his CNN program will be. It's another snooze-fest.

I like John Gibson. He's genuine. He's studious. I don't think he's an egomaniac.

I'll second Sheppard Smith - Get rid of him. To see him babbling in New Orleans was the final straw.

Being on the east coast, Greta is on too late to watch anyways. If I'm up that late, the Military or History Channels are more appealing.

It doesn't matter who it is. Put somebody on who makes fun of liberals, especially the liberal media, and stands up for conservatives, and I'll watch every night.

I don't care about Hollywood. The cult of personality will not save any news network. There are plenty of gossip shows about celebs but I don't care what they're wearing, where they shop for expensive baby and pet gear - who they are seen with. It's not important news. It's fluff.

Fox needs to refocus on IMPORTANT NEWS. Veering into fluff is killing them. I don't even like to see cooking segments in the a.m. I don't care.

How are our troops, how about the border? The economy, for average Americans, not for millionaires. That's an idea.

They may be ahead but they aren't winning a big prize for excellence in journalism. And, that's the point. That is what's also wrong with politics. It's more about winning than about working on America's tough problems.

I have been listening to a lot more radio. When I do watch fox and Wesley Clark's mug comes across the screen I switch to CNN.

I have a few recommendations for the chopping block... There are some folks on FNC that cause me to change channels the minute I hear their voice.

Greta gets to me. Looking at he distorted face is bad enough, but her "Bull dogging" a story to death makes me reach for the remote.

I guess Fox, like the Republican Party Leadership, should just be grateful the opposition stinks even worse then they do.

Get back to the conservative coverage that made you #1 in the first place!

YES. If they don't some other channel will because there is a huge proven market here in the boonies. That's how Fox buried MSM jerks.
