Once you know what you're looking for, it's easy to see them even from 40,000 feet.

I just located another half-dozen in 5 minutes.

Have you ever checked out the nuke test site just west of Area 51? That's pretty amazing, esp if you get the overlay files which describe each and every one of a couple hundred craters.
