I think what the posters in this thread are trying to say is that customs, like all law enforcement, should show some form of discretion in cases like this.
There are threads on FR everyday detailing law enforcement and administrators going overboard.
No...that's NOT what all of us are saying.
If you would read the thread, you would see that in ANY "travel for dummies" website, you would see clear instructions how to travel with presecription medicine.
Rush didn't follow ANY of it.
With his legal problems, if he didn't know how to do it...he's an idiot.
If his lawyer didn't TELL him how to do it, then he shouldn't get paid.
I love that word.
Who decides when discretion should be used? Who decides what person gets a pass and what person does not get a pass?
Laws are supposed to apply equally, not in a discretionary manor. Discretion is what gets terrorists into the country. That said, I do understand what your saying; unfortunately, those with the power of discretion wield it badly.
Exactly! Driving 56 mph in a 55 mph zone is against the law, but only an ass of a cop would pull you over for it. Walking outside the crosswalk lines is illegal.
I just cannot fathom why customs would waste their time detaining and reporting to local authorities something as minor as this. Confiscate or just throw away the pills and move on.
Either way, the lefties are going to try to run with this one and it will backfire on them like everything else. It is such a perfect contradiction to the fit they are throwing about violating the privacy rights of terrorists. Meanwhile, Rush will have more listeners tomorrow than he has had in quite a while.
