Considering that as of Jan 2007, we will have a new Senate with a New Republican Leader (Frist is retiring) maybe it is better if this cureent Senate just runs out the clock instead of trying anymore "fixing".
Ok, that is being silly about a serious issue but I honestly think this current Senate would do more harm then good on any real issue.
Democrats hate this issue, as most every other issue they stand for but can't openly defend under serious scrutiny. They've got an entire counter-culture lunatic base to protect. Putting this to a vote is a symbolic gesture that they'll dread having to make. It makes them as nervous as having to defend gay marriage.
Whenever they say, 'This is irrelevant. Let's talk about something else', you've got them.
