I used to live in Southern California, and I have never heard of this place until today. I don't know whether that speaks badly of me, or whether this place is really obscure.

Very pretty area, just north of Santa Barbara. Check it out sometime.

According to Fox, it is the first deep water port since the ship left Central America.

I don't think it speaks badly of you; Ventura County has been a big well-kept secret until lately. Now the developers are going full-bore and I think the plan is to turn us into Orange County West (yes, O.C. is mainly east of V.C.)

If you get onto Highway 1 at Malibu and head toward San Francisco you'll be very close to it as you pass through Oxnard. It's home base for the Navy's Seabees.

It's not obscure, Dog, but it also doesn't speak badly of you if you never heard of it before. Depends on where you lived in SoCal, and if you ever drove up the coast highway from around Santa Monica and/or Malibu toward Ventura and Santa Barbara.

I've lived in SoCal for 30 years, and I'm sure there are plenty of places here that I've never heard of, either. :)

Oh, BTW, it's one of those trick names. Not pronounced the way it looks, but pronounced why.nee.me.

If you know of Oxnard, you know of Port Hueneme. Port Hueneme borders Oxnard. Lots of cars come in thru PH.

The funny thing about it is that if you don't look at the word you can pronounce. If you look at the spelling it is all over. The correct way to pronounce Port Hueneme is Port Why-NEE'-me.

Now look at the word and tell me that is how it sounds! LOL

Port Youneme.
