Only other thing I can imagine would be lumps of tar.
I still own a condo at Surfside 3 in PH. Glad it didn't blow up!
I'm waiting for the day when more oil platforms are allowed in the channel. Landing at Santa Barbara Airport I've seen big oil slicks from natural seepage offshore. I can't imagine why 'environmentalists' aren't concerned about those. I guess those rich Democrats with beach homes are more concerned with 'eye pollution.'
And Jaguar and BMW, and.....a few more.
Port Hueneme is a quiet little seaside hamlet. It is in between Pt Mugu, and the Seebee bases. I own a house there.
I'm with you there Barnard. It's so peaceful to drive up Camarillo and enjoy the scenery at the same time. I hope the buffer of Thousand Oaks will shield from the onslaught of LA but of course I can only dream...
I remember the fifties and sixties - before all the hooplah about man made polution...
Your feet looked like some kind of plague was in progress but the beach seemed a lot more fun.
Too late: LA has arrived and there's much more of it every year. I live in Camarillo and it's still pretty and peaceful here for the most part. But drivers are becoming increasingly aggressive and inconsiderate and that 'small town feeling' is disappearing quickly beneath a lot of LA 'attitude.' We have a few good years left though. I think the Outlet Mall was designed to attract people from LA, first for shopping and then to buy real estate.
Merry10,
I'm kind of in the middle of everything, but close to City Hall, if you know where that is.
I'm with you, Bernard. I remember moving here when Camarillo was a much smaller, isolated city. Things have... changed.
Was this message written before the ship sailed, or after it arrived in port? Inquiring minds want to know.Seems like an easy way to break up a dull work day for a union twit
Yes. I recently received a letter from the City of Cam, thanking me for my help in their revitilization committee during 2005. I moved in 2004.
If you like mexican food, you must try Ola's. It's so good. I am homesick for it.
Bernard Marx - visited there last week for Cam High graduation and the traffic was terrible. There is way too much building for the number of schools that are available. Oxnard is now just a mass of houses, and camarillo is well on it's way. Although, the library in Camarillo looks awesome!

tx for excellent pic; brings back memories of my first sea duty.
Right next to Bandits... Yup, Ola's is good eats! :)
The other explanation could be that those south of Mexico (I mean LA) really don't know how to handle nitro and would carry it on a ship!
Of course I can see their Darwin Award being printed up now.
Normally people that stupid don't get that far with it.
Oxnard's growth is mind-boggling! Where are all those people finding jobs?
The new Camarillo library may be needed but spending 25+ million taxpayer $$$ on a palace-like library in the internet age makes me wonder. It's only been a couple of years since the city spent unknown millions $$$ to put traffic islands, trees, etc. along Las Posas Rd., narrowing it to an uncomfortable 2 lanes on each side. Traffic is already intense. Now they've put in huge housing projects on the Upland extension of Las Posas with more to come, built the library, and there's talk of moving the high school to the same area.
Growth is headed that direction, toward Somis, and I think it'll only be a short time until the city spends untold more millions tearing out the recent costly 'improvements' to widen Las Posas again! Ditto similar improvements on Ventura Ave. by Olas. I guess that's known as creating job security for city workers, lol.
