"Certainly nobody is going to deny First Amendment rights. But the New York Times and other news organizations ought to think long and hard about whether a public's right to know in some cases might override somebody's right to live," Snow said. "And whether, in fact, the publication...could place in jeopardy the safety of fellow Americans."

National Review calls for Bush to revoke the Times’s press credentials:
The president should match this morning’s tough talk with concrete action. Publications such as the Times, which act irresponsibly when given access to secrets on which national security depends, should have their access to government reduced. Their press credentials should be withdrawn. Reporting is surely a right, but press credentials are a privilege. This kind of conduct ought not be rewarded with privileged access.
Moreover, the Justice Department must be more aggressive than it has been in investigating national-security leaks. While prosecution of the press for publishing information helpful to the enemy in wartime would be controversial, pursuit of the government officials who leak it is not. At the very least, members of the media who report such information must be made to understand that the government will no longer regard them as immune from questioning when it investigates the leakers. They should be compelled to reveal their sources, on pain of contempt.

It would have been better if GW mentioned the "T" word for once. Maybe it hasn`t occurred to our President, but in every war there are always traitors...Like the old adage goes; "In times of need you find out who your true friends are" and pointing out the ones who back stab is the first step towards stopping them. These people are enemies of the US, they are not Americans, they never had any interest in the US except for using it, and it may have been fun and dandy in peace time calling this treason stuff "free speech", but in wartime this bulls**t has got to stop.

It's nothing but words until he does something about it.

President Bush is chief of the executive branch. He has the power to instruct his Attorney General to take action against those responsible. If the Attorney General doesn't like it, he can resign.

Bush has a duty and responsibility to his country. It's not a matter of being "nice" and "polite" to people. It's a matter of defending our country against its enemies, external and internal.

Words mean nothing without actions.

If Bush wants to show the world and the terrorist he means business he will go after the NYT reporters and punish them for what happened. Bush's failure to do so will do just as much to encourage the enemy. Bush needs to strengthen his backbone as its getting a bit weak these days.

I said Saturday, pardon me if I say so again: The NYT was given the rope. It has hung itself.

Let's party!

Show of hands here. How many of you actually think ANYBODY at the NYT will actually be prosecuted? I say ZERO! I'd love to believe otherwise and I know they certainly deserve to be prosecuted but I doubt they will be.

Just sent this to Michelle Malkin too:

I believe just a few days ago Mohammed Karzai was widely quoted by the MSM as agonizing over continuing deaths of Afghans in the war on terror. This included even the pro-Taliban fighters -- something to the effect "they too are sons of this land". He went on to say (paraphrasal) that the International Community must do a better job of stopping terrorism at it's roots by doing a better job of intercepting funds and other "supplies" (my word).

The MSM of course loved this: It sounds like real anti-military sentiment and perhaps criticism of "Amerika" for fighting the war on terror by ineffective means.

Of course, I am pretty sure the above was taken somewhat out of context. Karzai may well have been simply saying that as long as all countries, not just the U.S., with an official stance against terrorism, must do a better job on the supply side of the equation. Otherwise the war on terror will result in deaths of his countrymen, on both sides, "forever". I can hardly blame him for that opinion: He's probably right.

And yet, his plea coming just before (well, I think it was before) the Times revelation of the Terrorist Finance Tracking Program seems so, um, prophetic. Almost as if it could have been directed right at Killer, er, I mean Keller. But, hey, we know the Times is only concerned about deaths of Americans, or Afghans, if:

1) It can make Bush look bad and / or;

2) It'll sell some papers. (Yes, I really do think they even put "1" before "2"!)

I can guarantee Mr. Keller and Co. will, with this, story cause the deaths of more Americans and Afghans than would otherwise occur. Maybe a lot more.

Here's an idea: Maybe Karzai can extradite the Times' management and staff to Kabul. I'm sure Afghan-run prisons are really fun. (Keller can then beg to be sent
to "GitMo".) Wouldn't it be great?

I am waiting to hear whether those who subscribe to NYT's can make a small sacrifice - and cancel. So, even if for a small amount of time. . .do it so that a message is sent. . .and received.

More to the point; what is he going to do about it. . .

If this was a "Classified" program, how did Times get the scoup? This makes me think of Judy Miller and Scooter Libby. The leak has to come from the administration. Can we find out who initially leaked the info?

"'Congress was briefed and what we did was fully authorized under the law,' Bush said..."

On the news I heard it said that the leak came from within the Bush Administration. Since Congress was briefed, I'd look more towards the Rockefeller, Biden, Feingold, Leahy crowd.

[Bytheway, notice how "the Bush Administration" had nothing to do with the nabbing of the terrorists in Florida? No, nothing good is ever credited to the Bush Administration by the so-called MSM.]

Well, on the bright side some politicians are now calling this treason.

Which it is.

And demanding charges be brought.

It always takes them longer then us to call it for what it is, so that's the silver lining. I suspect evntually they will start prosecuting the NYT's. The question is how long before it occurs. I personally started labeling them traitors a couple of years ago. Will it take two more years before legal repercussions are felt at the NYT's and LAT buildings?
