There is a lotta "hands off" in this day and age (I don't even know if it is only linked to THIS administration). Remember all the things the Clintons did before/while leaving office, and think of all the topsy-turvy things like the 9/11 "commission": there seems to be a Holy Status Quo that rules our country sometimes.
You are so very right in that song. The NYT would SURELY have published Navaho Children's Primers in WWII. Maybe even in Japanese. It's insane what we now accept.
