Outraged conservative groups opposed to giving illegal immigrants amnesty in the United States are calling for a nationwide tourism boycott of Massachusetts to protest Sen. Edward M. Kennedys stance on the hot-button political issue.
Massachusetts seems to have lost its way, said Barry Weinstein, a writer for the influential right-wing Human Events magazine, in which Weinstein recently urged hundreds of thousands of like-minded activists to boycott the Bay State when going on vacations or short visits.
Its the only thing they understand - getting hit in the pocketbook, said John Clark, congressional liaison for the American Immigration Control Foundation, which has about 230,000 members.
The various groups banding together are fuming over Kennedys co-authoring with Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain a Senate amendment that would allow many illegal immigrants to stay in the country if they agree to a number of strict stipulations.
Kennedy, a Democrat, and McCain, a Republican and a possible presidential candidate, would allow immigrants to stay in the country if they agree to pay back taxes and a $2,000 fine, as well as work six years on a special green card and then wait five years to gain the right to apply for citizenship.
Kennedys office defended the plan, arguing it does not amount to an amnesty - and noting that if illegal immigrants fail to abide by the rules, they would be forced to leave the country.

Why not move?
why not move?
Family, career.
And the bomb on the deck
"That leaves no one on your list."
Yes when you look at things it is a very sparse field. There really isn't anyone who is a dream candidate is there?
Me: And yet the people one meets from Massachusetts are by and large sensible.
sgtbono-- I never met one who would admit they voted for a Kennedy. Dont know how he keeps getting re-elected.
Actually he crashed two jets in this country and crashed a third on his first flight in Viet Nam.
His first flight mind you.
I Live in MA and I applaud any effort to defund Boston Liberals and their treasonous politics! Stay away! Please! Use the money to buy several more guns or contribute to conservative politicians. Thank you.
Dream candidate ??
There is not even a credible candidate, and I consider myself a very moderate conservative
Just how deep does McCain feel he has to dig his political grave?I mean really,it's been deep enough for years now-he can stop digging anytime.
They say it costs a million dollars to train a naval aviator. It would have been cheaper to put Johnny boy on KP than to let him anywhere near a flight line.
Kind of like how I could never find anyone I knew who voted for Clinton. Then my brother reminded me-"We don't associate with people who would do a thing like THAT."
I lived in Mass for 5 years (or so it seemed) and I was able to do it in only 9 months.
I unfortunately live in Kennedyistan. I intend to take my vacation outside Massachusetts -- though my wife is still lobbying for going to Cape Odd. I think we will go to Rhode Island instead, not that that isn't Little Kennedyistan (ala Patches Kennedy).
I also intend to support Ken Chase who is running against The Walrus known as Kennedy both financially and with my vote in November. Anyone who is interested can go to http://www.chaseforsenate.com/.
But if the immigrants decide they don't want to pay the money and choose to remain as they are then Kennedy and McCain say they will put them on Double Secret Probation. Oh, what the hell, they'll legalize them anyway. For the children.
