Well, my point is that the Republicans always do support their incumbents. If they didn't, the party would be in shambles. Sorry if you don't like it, but that's the way it is.
As far as Chaffee's challenger winning in the general, I think you are living in a fool's paradise. I am in the Midwest, but I do know something about Rhode Island, and Chaffee is the most conservative candidate who can win. Should his challenger get the nomination, he will go down in flames. Feel free to bookmark this; I will cheerfully concede if I am wrong.

If they didn't, the party would be in shambles. The party would be stronger if it backed conservatives.
What have Specter & Chafee done for Bush besides oppose him at every step? Yeah I know Specter put the judicial nominees through but that was only AFTER angry conservatives' phone calls and faxes.
Sorry if you don't like it, but that's the way it is.
It reeks of good-old boy, smokey backroom politics and further blurs the distinctions between the GOP and Dims.

Chafee has a dogfight on his hands. I seriously think he's headed out to pasture.

Chaffee has to go. If he doesn't, this election will encourage him to change parties anyway. If we knock him out, we will send a message to the rest of the RINOs. Sadly, that is the best we can hope for. Chaffee must go, and we should work to pick up a Senate seat elsewhere.

What Republicans you talking about?
And if "Republicans" always support incumbents, why do we even bother to have primaries at all?
