Lost among the FR discussion regarding potential Republican presidential candidates for 2008, there is one candidate that conservatives should seriously take a good hard look at, one in which the RNC should immediately get behind as soon as he wins his re-election bid this year - Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue.

"At the time [When he took office in January 2003] Georgia was in its worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and facing a $640 million dollar state budget deficit. Sonny immediately went to work reforming the budget process, setting priorities and cutting the waste. His efforts reduced the size of state government by over a billion dollars."
"Sonny also worked hard to get the economy back on track by creating a business friendly climate for Georgia's hometown employers while aggressively recruiting new investment from other states and internationally. In three years, he helped generate over 183,000 new jobs and over $6 billion in new investment in Georgia's economy."

First Republican governor of Georgia since Benjamin Conley at the end of Reconstruction in the 1870s.
Revoked driver licenses of teens who failed in school
Eliminated the gas tax following Hurricane Katrina
Protected Georgians' private property rights
In a real sense that could have happened but the public perception was that the amount they payed at the pump decreased by 15 cents because a Republican did a good thing. I don't mind the retailers being the true beneficiaries of the cut.
She is for nothing. That should be a dead giveaway that she is a Dim.
Well yeah. But she pulled some unethical prank a while back...i just can't remember what it was.
Probably concerning her Diebold eVoting machine fiasco.
My daughter was an insider on the certification process. They used part-time Kennesaw University students run by a CSIS Professor Emeritus. That probably speaks for itself.
>>Dr. Brit Williams is the chief consultant from Kennesaw State University who performed the certification test on the Diebold touchscreen machines used for the state of Georgia. At the March 9, 2005, meeting of The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Technical Guidelines Development Committee, Williams said, "Right now the primary use of wireless technology in a voting system is to program voting stations. Because if I have got 3,000 voting stations and I have to load those with pc cards, then I have got to sit down and manufacture 3,000 pc cards, and keep them separated by precinct. Whereas if I could sit in my warehouse and load those ballot images wirelessly, there is a tremendous advantage."Copyright © 1998-2006 Online Journal
One term Governor Roy Barnes had aspirations for President, too, but he had to settle for the Profiles in Courageous Stupidity Award from the Kennedy bunch. The only rational reason for Barnes to pull the stupid flag stunt was to paint himself as the courageous "New South" Democrat with a bad haircut. Perdue has him beat for bad haircuts AND for more skillful deception. It's more brazen than most Georgians realize...but it's common knowledge that Perdue lied (lies).
