President throws bone. Leftists chew one end, conservatives chew the other. Sort of like Millay's candle, it won't last long...but it looks lovely.
I gather we are all supposed to be overjoyed ...
Its a good start
This is a good order as far as it goes.
Unfortunately, the problem is NOT with the Feds, but with the states! This order doesn't and can't stop the states froms tealing property!
Stroke of the Pen...law of the land..kinda cool
So does this mean an end to forfeiture law? Or is it a select subset of property to which this applies?
Thank you Mr. President.
Why is it that the government always gets an exclusion?
The "glass half empty" crowd have noted this doesn't forbid local and state govt from taking property. Last time the President doesn't run local and state governments. So Bush is doing his part. This is good news.
This thread has obviously lost its focus. The basic fact is that the pres has signed an executive order which puts on the books law which is intended to protect private property ownership. It is now up to each of us, through our representatives and senators, to improve this law.
Its a major achievement to have this law, with the ability to modify and improve it. Have at it. You can bet that there are hundreds of smart lawyers reaping the benefits of this law already.
Im only glad to know that Bush actually knows he can do Executive Orders.
Thank you, President Bush. You've set the example...
Thanks, W, but if we have really reached the point where our freedoms are protected by executive orders, which are double edged swords, rather than by the Constitution, then we are a very long ways down the road to serfdom.
Meanwhile, a major policy speech outlining the evils of eminent domain and urging action, would be even more welcome.
The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help. - Ronald Reagan
A nice token gesture. It's good policy for the Federal Government, and will make any future President who revokes it look bad. But overall I agree with others who say that the abuse is at the state and local level, and Congress should pass a law preventing it immediately.
That should be worth a couple more points approaching November elections. If he wants to get above 50%, he'll need to fully support the house immigration bill.
I'm guessing you guys saw this... PING
It is the policy of the United States to protect the rights of Americans to their private property...
AMEN
Some action such as this is long overdue - if the EO has been constructed in such a manner so as to accomplish what we hope. If not, and this turns out to be another "wag the dog" response to distract us from traitorous illegal immigration policies, then I hope the American people see through it and hold the appropriate folks accountable.
I really don't get this one. The only thing I can figure is one of Bush's handlers called his secretray up and said "OK, its time to take all their property", the secretary wrote down the message and well we all know about George's reading skills....
More tricks to win Conservatives back. I'm really getting tired of this. Our energy problem can be solved if the time was devoted to it.
