I believe in allowing people to enjoy themselves at the office such as getting rid of dress up type of dress codes but the pets go too far even in my book.
Me, I'd be out of there before the dog had a chance to look around the room.
Or a lawsuit when one of these family pets attacks a worker. I see this as an incredibly unwise (stupid) policy for companies.

It's better than the stupid "Take Your Child To Work Day" recently promoted and celebrated.
My dog is more behaved than the majority of the little b*astards most people bring to work.
rodents need extermination. the snakes can help with it.
As for the cats.....thats what the dogs are for.
One must be sure of the pet's disposition, of course, but other than that--what's wrong with it?
I'm not bringing my dog to work...he might be more productive than me and end up taking my job!
I don't mind the dogs....
It's the lemon-sucking crabby people in some offices I can't stand. :~)
Who's going to arbitrate between the well behaved animal and the annoying pest? Just best to keep the workplace free of all of them.
All cats (except hairless ones) provoke allergies in a large percentage of people. Some dogs provoke allergies and some do not (depends mostly, but not entirely, on whether the dog sheds frequently or not). I know this because I have a relative with severe pet allergies.
My little Yorkie is asleep in a doggie bed on my desk as I type. I have a manufacturing plant on 11 acres and when she's not sleeping, she's checking out all the activity. The happy little thing has reduced my blood pressure incredibly.
Mine is home in his crate. I think he'd be happier if he knew I worked in a cubicle...which is basically a crate for humans.
Its hard to own your own business sometimes but the perks are great, especially when people ignore the no trespassing and salespeople by appointment only signs and just walk in. My dogs would never bite, but they do sound the alarm well, especially my female golden lab, she has a low guttural bark that usually sends them scurrying back out the door. Most never stick around long enough to see all the smiles and wagging tails...
Wow - I never heard of a hairless cat.

Obviously, it depends upon what type of office and how easily the dogs can go outside. In our case, we work at a local airport, so this is not a problem.
Well, I work from home, so my dogs are with me at work every day...
But when I did work in an office, I had one job where I brought my dog in with me her first two months... she was too young to be left outside all day, and too young to be left in. She slept under my desk or in her crate, I had an outside door in my office so I could take her out on potty breaks as frequently as a pup needs. It was a blast having here there, and it does help people get along. Usually people would smile when they saw her... even those with lemons in their mouths.
My husband is going to take one of our dogs to work with him today :~)
