I downloaded the free version of Google Earth and I can't figure out how to use it. I can't even find an icon or the program on the program list. I know this must sound really stupid, but how do I start it up?

...and that does not begin to speak to the intel and analysis that can be done with such photos irrespective of coordinates.

I use the free version too. You donwload the program that installs it. So, run the program you donwloaded and it should put an icon on your desktop to run it. When you start it up (after installing) it will initialize and that takes a few minutes. I then just use my mouse to move around the world and zoom in and out.

I believe that is the ferris wheel in London.

I had a cousin who worked for the Dept. of Homeland Security, who once called another relative and asked them to walk outside and wave up at the sky.
Suffice it to say the technology our guys are using is much better than Google Earth.

I posted it as a joke. It's from Google-earth website and looks like the machine in the movie "Contact"

Oh...of course it is. I know this personally for fact.
However...the technology necessary to give even these level of photos, along with the exact latitude and longitude of each point on it, is something many of our enemies do not have access to.

The problem is I can't find what I downloaded. Maybe I'll just download it again and stick with it this time. The first time, I left to go home and left it downloading. Maybe something happened and it didn't complete it. Thanks for the help!

I wish someone with the time and knowledge would use Google Earth to build presentations of major battles, such as showing the movements of troops during the battle of Stalingrad.

Try to get it when you can because the new Google-Earth 4.0 Beta has lot more detail than previous. An improvement

Fascinating pictures. Probably more than a year old.
To: Fester Chugabrew
Thanks...I know the Varyag pic is about 18 months to 24 months old. Some on Google are even older (up to 4+) years...some are newer. It certainly is not "real-time".
