The picture of my house is ~2 years old.
As for the quality of the images, our surveillance satellites can look down at that flattop and tell how many dimsum are left on the captain's plate.

They seem newer...probably within the last two to three years. I don't remember when we announced the three new SSNs being forward deployed there...but it wasn't six years ago.
My home pic is newer now than the first one I saw. The first one was about 2000. The one I see now is less than 2 years old.

Understood. But GPS is not the only method. Terrain following...dead reckoning, etc.

Looks like a Brit jump-jet carrier. Yes?

Yes, but the images are so old as to be almost useless. Google Earth shows my home as it looked 4 years ago.

Yeah, I thought it looked like a Brit jump jet carrier as well.
They don't field Harriers.
That thing is one hell of a Virginia class target.

There is an interesting article at The

Google Earth threatens democracy
Military hardware laid bare to Godless commies
I thought I had posted it here but a search couldn't come up with it

Does google get their images from one source or from multiple sources? Many pictures from Silicon Valley are so sharp that you can clearly see individual cars in intersections. But pictures of the area where I grew up are at such a poor resolution that you can't even tell where the high school's football field is.

Nope...that's the former Russian Varyag. Sister ship to the Kuznetsov. The Ukraine ended up with it and they couldn;t afford to finish it so they sold it to the Chinese...supposedly to become a casino. Then the holding company for the caisno wnet right out of business and the "presto" the PLAN ended up with it.
Here's pic of the Kuznetsov opertional:

The roof of the White House and The Capitol are blacked out (or at least they used to be. someone told me that this has changed)
Also the UK Trident submarine base in Faslane is blurred when you get beyond the admin buildings

Actually, for the fixed facilities, they are not. My house is less than two years old on goolge...and those dry docks and other fixed facilities don't move that much.

If you buy the professional package, you get better and a lot more coverage that is detailed. But even in the free version, like Diego Garcia, in the Indian Ocean. The ocean all around it is not resolute at all...but the ilsand itself is pretty sharp.

They turned the Minsk into a casino. It was worthless anyway.
