Could you get a 747 to do that kind of climb even with a nose? I doubt it, but I'm not a pilot.

If we eliminate the missile as the cause we are still left with several MAJOR problems with the NTSB's scenaro. Not only could TWA 800 not climb 3,000 feet, but when all the controls were cut it would immediately bank and plunge out of control into the ocean.
