Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum has been making the rounds claiming that the US has in fact discovered banned weapons in Iraq. The claims are based on the continuing sporadic appearance of pre-Gulf War I munitions containing variously disintegrated chemical weapons, and the Pentagon has said that the claims are crap: the munitions in question, mostly artillery rounds, are unusable and have been for years...

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Mr. Common Sense.
Mr. Sense had been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such value lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm
and that life isn't always fair.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn)and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge).
His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. - Reports of a six -year old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Mr. Sense declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student; but, could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, she spilled a bit in her lap, and was awarded a huge financial settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is
survived by two stepbrothers; My Rights and Ima Whiner.
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.
It may be that Bush won't be able to squash discussion of WMD evidence. If Democrats think he's 'lying or hiding' something, they'll find a way to use it. Domestic political heat over illegal immigrants, broken borders, and fighting a PC war in Iraq with two Marines butchered and others charged with murder. None of this is pretty. Bush isn't running again, but you'd think he'd have a care for republicans who are.
Here's Santorum's interview with Hugh Hewitt:
HH: Now of these 500 shells that they have recovered, Senator Santorum, does the document, the unclassified version, tell you in how many batches they were discovered? Was it one? Was it 50 of 100, or one of 500?
RS: You know, I can't talk about what additionally it tells you. All I can tell you is there have been published reports on blog sites about this report...and the published reports say that 75% of these 500 or so weapons were in fact FILLED and USABLE, and VERY DANGEROUS for the...if got to improper hands.
I'm afraid i think it's too early to get excited about this. Only one page of the report has been declassified by Negroponte, and that doesn't give us anything to base our case for invading on.
That's the head KOmmie??? He'd certainly be able to rummage through a purse in New York without being questioned by the cops!
I refuse to believe this administration is that stupid. Surely Karl Rove is going to make certain that more and more information continues to "leak" out, making the dems go further and further out on that thin limb with more whacked out arguments and untruths.
I predict that limb will snap and they'll all come tumbling down right around election time.
Do we have links to any of these blogs that Santorum suggests we look at (reading between his lines-very clever)?
I knew this would be the response. What's inconvenient for the democrats, and nobody talks about this, is that Richard Clarke and David Kay testified under oath that Saddam was 12 to 18 months away from having a nuclear weapon. Well, not anymore.:o) And all I can say is thank you President Bush.
"$6 billion in direct costs, five dead soldiers and 40 wounded, not to mention hundreds of dead Iraqis, for each unusable round. Heckuva job, George."
And not a single terrorist attack on US soil. Of course, that doesn't fit your agenda tho'. Carry on nothing to see here....
Here's the entire interview...check it out: http://www.radioblogger.com/#001709
They may say just that, but don't disregard the possibility that this administration is giving Santorum's campaign a much needed boost. I smell Karl Rove and a delicious rope-a-dem/dope. See my post #66.
I wonder if you would like to put that theory to test? How about using your wife and kids as test subjects. Better yet, let's just give the bad guys the equipment that was used to make this stuff, equipment which has been found all over Iraq, and not worry about these "how much of a threat were they really" weapons.
Predisposition, ability, and intent were all present in pre-invasion Iraq, how hard is that to understand?
I believe finding these weapons was the exact purpose of the UN sanctions. Old or not, the existence of these weapons is a violation of the UN mandates. They don't get a pass because these weapons were "old". I agree. Yesterday three different liberal talking heads all used the same line: "These are not the weapons the administration said we were looking for." My question is: Then tell me what weapons we were looking for. Do they have particular serial numbers or something. I really don't recall anyone in the administration saying exactly what weapons we were after. We still have Mk-62 warheads on top of our ICBMs and I was working on them in the early 70s'. Does anyone have a link or even remember anyone saying that Hussein had 500 or more of these WMDs but they are too old to be useful? The point is, no one had any knowledge that Hussein just threw these things out in the fields to bake in the sun, but this whole flap does gives us valuable insight into the minds of liberals and how their brains work, or rather don't work. |
I dare you to take a hammer and beat one till it leaks. Just don't do it in my neighborhood.
Here is how the liberals are responding to the announcement of the discovery of WMDs in Iraq. They are using quotes from FOX News Chanel's Jim Angle, to discredit the announcement:
"Fox News Jim Angle contacted the Defense Department who quickly disavowed Santorum and Hoekstras claims. A Defense Department official told Angle flatly that the munitions hyped by Santorum and Hoekstra are not the WMDs for which this country went to war.
The liberals then say they are degraded weapons and are no threat, so they really aren't WMDs.
My responses is that the reason fro the UN Sanctions were to find and destroy all of Iraq's WMDs and the onus was on Iraq to do so. 500 degraded shells filled with nerve agents are still extremely lethal from all I have read and heard. It would be great to hear from someone who can verify this.
See 68 above
The round was an old "binary-type" shell in which two chemicals held in separate sections are mixed after firing to produce sarin, Kimmitt said.
He said he believed that insurgents who rigged the artillery shell as a bomb didn't know it contained the nerve agent, and that the dispersal of the nerve agent from such a rigged device was very limited.
The shell had no markings. It appears the binary sarin agents didn't mix, which is why there weren't serious injuries from the initial explosion, a U.S. official told Fox News.
