After being in Vienna for the EU-US summit for talks ranging from the Iran nuclear standoff to ways of reducing the West's foreign energy dependence, President and Mrs. Bush arrived in Budapest for a brief visit. The Bush's and SoS Rice listened to the Vienna Boys' Choir, among other cultural activities.
President and Mrs. Bush participated in a roundtable with foreign students in Vienna.
I *SALUTE* Wolfgana Schussel's response to the Euroweenie's disrespectful question, attempting to bash Pres. Bush and America, and repeat it so more will be aware of it. I was cheering him and yelling at the TV when I heard it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The snarky question:
"And to the President, Mr. President, you said this is "absurd," but you might be aware that in Europe the image of America is still falling, and dramatically in some areas. Let me give you some numbers. In Austria, in this country only 14 percent of the people believe that the United States, what they are doing is good for peace; 64 percent think that it is bad.
In the United Kingdom, your ally, there are more citizens who believe that the United States policy under your leadership is helping to destabilize the world than Iran. So my question to you is, why do you think that you've failed so badly to convince Europeans, to win their heads and hearts and minds? Thank you."
(President Bush gives his response .. and then Wolfgang Schussel interrupted ...
"CHANCELLOR SCHUSSEL: Let me add -- let me add something. I think Austria is really a good example to show that America has something to do with freedom, democracy, prosperity, development.
Don't forget I was born in '45. At that time, Vienna and half of Austria laid in ruins. And without the participation of America, what fate would have Europe? Where would be Europe today? Not the peaceful, prosperous Europe like we love it and where we live.
Nothing -- I will never forget that America fed us with food, with economic support. The Marshall Plan was an immense aid and incentive to develop industry, agriculture, tourism.
And by the way, I said it to the President, the Marshall Fund is still working in Austria. It's now transformed into a kind -- in a fund for research and development -- still working.
The American people, at that time, the American government invested billions of dollars in Europe to develop the former enemy.
And now we are a partner. So I think it's grotesque to say that America is a threat to the peace in the world compared with North Korea, Iran, other countries."
GOD BLESS HIM!
Your family has my prayers, friend.
Great to be around! :-)
RE: George and Laura; I just LAUGH when I see the tabloids that say they're splitting up--it's just so awesome to see them together. Anyone with EYES can see how in love they are! They're an inspiration to us all, aren't they? I worry when they're abroad, but they obviously enjoy it so much; I suppose they're getting a "break" from all that goes on over here.
Hannity is speculating that perhaps the Dims will apologize to the Pres. now that they've found chemical weapons . . . talk about a fantasy--LOL!
Thanks for posting that....I didn't get to see it...just heard a blurb on the radio news.
God's blessings on your family for all of you to feel His peace, and financial strains to be reduced. We've been in the same situation lately, and He does come through in ways we least expect.
???
You know, I think these trips abroad serve as second, third and fourth honeymoons for our very much in love First Couple.
MUCH better to be in Vienna than driving the dusty roads of West Texas like they did on their first honeymoon. :)
I will leave that to speak for itself. ;-)
Some things are best left unsaid, Gretchen. :)
When we were in Vienna, we found a very small church on a side street - I don't think we ever found out the name. It had a gorgeous altar, all gold leaf. I'm sure we have a photo but it's most likely on a slide (which will take some time to find and scan).
Hi Gretchen, Thanks for the "Dose"
Prayers for your dad, and for your mom too.
Great post, Star. I'd call that a VAP (Value-Added Post)!!!! Wow: "I think it's grotesque to say that America is a threat to the peace in the world compared with North Korea, Iran, other countries." (CHANCELLOR SCHUSSEL)
I will have to make a note of that in my quotes file.
Thanks for the Dose, Gretchen.
The news about WMD is quite fascinating and equally fascinating is watching the leftists have emotional meltdowns on national television.
She just got back Sunday from a week in Disneyland with some cousins, so I want to wait till a new adventure will be more meaningful than at present. Also, my friend, Mike, will be driving and I have to work with his schedule. It's one of those things I'll probably know about a day or two ahead of time. But during the summer.
Actually Mike is the one who mentioned wanting to go to the zoo, in Sabrina's presence, and that's what started the whole thing. It was inspired. I haven't been in ages and we have an awesome zoo in Seattle.
Prayers for your father to find another job fast.
What a beautiful place .. I've never been to Europe, and Vienna looks gorgeous. That library is breathtaking .. you're right, GEM .. I can see a Beauty and the Beast scene there.
they are saying that these are old ones and that they weren't any good...no new news here...move along
WOW..that is beautiful, thank you!
