It's a road course event at Sonoma this week-end for the Nextel Cup circuit.
Temperatures will be up both on and off the track.
See ya there!
Sounds like a fun place for a lizard!
They used to have a Renaissance Fair nearby there in the woods. Haven't had it there for quite a few years tho.
Fantasy racing,,,,,,hummm,,fantasy, let's see....
SLAP!
Whew, thanks I neeeded that. It was getting warm in here! LOL
thanks for the ping
ROAD COURSE RACING HAS NO PLACE IN NASCAR!!! Simple proofs? 1. Quality NASCAR drivers having to go to Boris Said for driving lessons. 2. Car owners kicking their normal drivers out of the car and putting a road race ringer in his place.
If road course racing is so different that changing who sits in the seat for just those races can play a role in victory, then it has no place belonging.
Bring back Rockingham.
Who has the most wins in road course races plus not many ringers finish the race plus most of them drive for teams that must qualify to race...
This week's Tom Higgins' 'Scuffs'........
Cool overhead shot!
Alrighty then. I have a plan.
1. pick drivers
2. get ice
Thanks for the thread Norm. Let's go road racin!
Thanks to Jayski for the info and OUCH!
Riggs injured, Elliott to stand by at Sonoma: Monday, while on vacation with his family in Myrtle Beach [SC, #10-Scott Riggs injured both feet while unloading his jet ski in an oyster bed. The wounds required 12 stitches in the ball of left foot and eight stitches in the right big toe. The injury to Riggs has caused Valvoline Evernham Racing to make back-up plans for this weekends NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race in Sonoma. Ray Evernham and Valvoline Designated Team Owner Jim Rocco have retained former NASCAR champion Bill Elliott to stand by this weekend should Riggs not be able to practice, qualify or race the Valvoline/Stanley Tools Dodge Charger.
As things stand today, Riggs will be racing Sunday, according to the team. Jim and I huddled today with Scott, Bill Elliott, Team Director Rodney Childers and Competition Director Sammy Johns and we are going to Sonoma with the intention of Scott running the full weekend, Evernham said. But Bill will be ready for any scenario.
Im going to Sonoma to race, Riggs said Wednesday. It was a freak incident at Myrtle Beach. There was no warning about an oyster bed where we unloaded. Well see what happens when I get in the race car. Im going to do whats best for the team this weekend. Valvoline Evernham Racing will have updates at Infineon Raceway for the media.(Evernham Motorsports/Clear!Blue PR)(6-22-2006)
And the story continues........
ANOTHER UPDATE: Car owner Ray Evernham had until last Friday to convince Dodge officials to allow UPS to sponsor Kasey Kahne's Dodge next year, and apparently he couldn't do it. That means UPS will sponsor Greg Biffle's Ford next year.(Augusta Chronicle)(6-22-2006)
Hmmmmm I will have to go check that out. He was supposed to run the #32 if I remember correctly.
Hope you and your first wife are feeling better today. I'm off today, so we're going to the movies later.
The flu and Sonoma. Reminds me when Stewart won that one weird year (2 years ago?)
Tony's in the car complaining badly about stomach problems and says he wants to get out of the car. They past through some medicine during a pit and are readying a replacement driver. All of a sudden the complaining stops, and Stewart radios in that he'll finish the race.
After he wins, they yank him out and off he goes in the back of a golf cart. No standing, no winner's circle, nothing. Stewart then returns :20 minutes later, and has completely changed out his clothes to celebrate the win in the winner's circle.
I'm about 99% positive he drove the last hour or two and won that race in crapped pants.
Has anyone heard about this lawsuit between NASCAR and the Kentucky Speedway? They are suing NASCAR so that they can force a Nextel Cup race there. Shouldn't NASCAR decide where their races are instead of being forced by courts?
Anyways, my friend sent me the link to this petition protesting the lawsuit so that NASCAR, and not just companies suing them, can decide where the races take place.

And we're back to 39. If only NASCAR would let another rookie onto the track, and we could come up with some dough,.... ;-)
From what I understand of this situation Kentucky built this track expansion with no guarantee from Nascar to place a Cup race there. Nascar had a legal problem a few years ago with TMS wanting a second race which TMS won. I don't remember the particulars.
Nascar is trying to spread the races throughout the country from what began as a southeastern sport.
Kentucky does seem to have good intentions by upgrading the facility to accomodate more fans which is what Nascar is all about these days - $$$$$$
Kentucky currently does have the Busch race, the truck race IRL and USAC races there.
I don't know what I clicked on earlier but Fellows is in and no Wild Bill? I must be sicker than I thought...
You could call Mikey for one of his old cars like David Gilliland did. He's going to be on Trackside Friday night. One win in Busch and he's a star!! I think that's so great, what a wonderful story.
I thought that was funny about him winning with Mikey's old car which finished.......where?? Certainly not first or even close. That says a lot for Gilliland's engine builder, crew and the driver of course.
I checked Yahoo as well and didn't see anything out of the ordinary......Ellott is NE and Fellows is still there. It will be a tough qualifying evening for the faint of heart since all the ringers need to qualify on time. Since there's no rain on the horizon for a change, we don't have to factor that in thankfully.
