I don't have a source. I just remember Gerald Ford once remarking, in an interview, that he could comment on the Gulf War because he received regular briefings.

I'm assuming that these briefings continue.

I'm not surprised to learn that Ford received briefings from Bush 41.

I wouldn't make the leap from that, however, that all past presidents stay in the loop. Somehow, the thought of GWB authorizing Jimmy Carter receive briefings on anything is far-fetched, don't you think?
