Cindy Sheehan to begin hunger strike on July 4 - accompanied by Willie Nelson
afterdowningstreet.org ^ | 6/3/06 | Cindy Sheehan

Posted on 06/21/2006 10:13:23 AM PDT by redstatesrock

I have camped out in front of George Bush's ranch, marched in rallies, lobbied Congress, gone to jail, and much more to stop the devastating war in Iraq and bring our troops home. Now it's time to do more.

Along with other activists and the peace groups Gold Star Families for Peace and CODEPINK, I will be starting an open-ended hunger strike, called Troops Home Fast, on July 4 th. We will start the fast in Washington DC, in front of the White House, and then move to Camp Casey (outside Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas) in mid-August. We hope the fast will galvanize public attention, invigorate the peace movement, build pressure on elected officials, and get our troops back home!

As a sign of solidarity, we are asking you to join us by fasting for at least one day. It could be on July 4, our launch date, or any other time during the summer. You can fast from wherever you are, or better yet, join us in Washington DC or Crawford, Texas. We've already received commitments from wonderful allies such as Willie Nelson, Danny Glover, Dick Gregory and Dolores Huerta, as well as military veterans, religious leaders, students, and women's groups.

Thank for considering our request to fast for one day as a symbol of your support for the Iraqi people and our soldiers, and your commitment to bring our troops back home—FAST! You can either contact me directly or my assistant Tiffany Burns at tiffany@codepinkalert.org

Warm regards,

Cindy Sheehan

Actually, perhaps a group should show up with really tastey food and eat in front of them....

LOL! That's a great idea. We could bring camp stoves and cook lots of food downwind - call it Picnic For Patriots.

I remember sometime ago the IRA having a hunger strike. I think it was the British ship QE2 that had come to NY harbor, thrown a banner over the side that said, "Bobby Sands is hungry." I thought it was a riot. Boy did I make a coworker IRA sympathizer mad. To me terrorism is terrorism.

Willie fits right in; most Austinites in Texas are liberals... some on the verge of communism.

This is one of the reasons I left Austin... well, I'm now in a new battle ground, Montgomery County Maryland... right along side of Michelle Malkin.

If Cindy wants to lose 10 pounds of ugly fat she can just cut off her head.

I think it is like the one that Jesse Jackson went on years ago, go without food for lets say 24hrs. and then pass it on to another person.

Cindy most likely got the idea from looking in the mirror at all the weight she seems to have gained. (See most recent photo and contrast w/earlier ones.)

Not really, Johnny Cash was anti-Iraq War. Sad.
