Reilly reiterates stance on workers (Mass. Atty Gen. turns blind eye on illegals/companies)
Boston Globe ^ | 06/20/06 | Yvonne Abraham and Jonathan Saltzman

Attorney General Thomas F. Reilly said yesterday it is not his responsibility to crack down on Massachusetts employers that hire undocumented immigrants, and he said he will continue his policy of taking no action against the companies.

In 2001, Reilly established a policy, saying his office would aggressively fight for the rights and wages of immigrant workers, legal or not, and promise not to report them to federal authorities.

He also said he would enforce wage and labor laws against companies, but not act against them for employing undocumented immigrants.

Yesterday he stood by that, even as a Globe story Sunday reported that undocumented immigrants were receiving wages from contractors on state-funded projects.

Send fliers all over the country so that all illegals will congregate in Mass.

Reilly's a real buffoon--take what happened when he went to pick his gubernational running mate. Instead of picking wealthy businessman Chris Gabrieli, he threw him over the side in favor of Rep. Marie St. Fleur. Hey, a Haitian-born immigrant will help him get those minority voters, right?

Mere hours later, it was revealed that St. Fleur was a deadbeat owing thousands in taxes, loans, etc. She was quickly bounced from the ticket. Reilly was heard to say, "I guess politics isn't my strong suit."

So, Mr. Governor wanna-be, WHY ARE YOU in POLITICS?

Gabrieli later decided to run for Gov. himself. My guess is Reilly and Gabrieli will wind up losing the primary to Deval Patrick. s ">

Interesting governor's race in MA. Romney is not going for re-election after one term and his Lt. Gov is a real lightweight - Kerry Healey. She was on the ticket because she's a woman. You'd think that she'd be toast, but Reilly is a buffoon and the other main Dem candidate is Deval Patrick, a guy who worked in the Clinton administration on affirmative action. Patrick is black. Many democrats in MA are social conservatives as are many independents. Are they ready to elect a black governor? The last statewide pol that was black was Ed Brooke, a republican from the 1960's/1970's. I'd like to see Patrick get the nomination and see what support he gets in South Boston, Charlestown, etc....

Am wondering if Reilly picked St Fleur not just because she could bring in the minority vote, but, since Healey is a woman and Patrick is black, why not bring in a running mate who's a combo of the two?...The Gabrieli thing really backfired.
He could have brought in some good money but getting tossed
aside meant he could now run vs. Reilly for the governorship
itself!

All of the candidates except Reilly are very wealthy, btw.
Healey, for the record, lives just down the street from
me here in Beverly. I would be OK with her or Mihos (pref.
Mihos) but shudder at thought of a Gov. Reilly, Patrick,
or Gabrieli.

You want one party rule? Think about what would happen
if the Corner Office went Dem. again.
