By the way, where are the B-52s? Why are we allowing large groups of foreign fighters to flee? Why are they not being churned up into chum by our air assets?
I think this will also be a persue and destroy excercise for the new Iraqi security forces. Practice makes perfect and if thhings don't get cleaned up on the ground, then the air support can come in and clean things up.
There will be AC-130 in place. If anything attempts to leave the city, they will likely encounter massive fire power and be deformed into swiss cheese.
We probably aren't.
This is a media report. I have yet to see them ever tell the whole truth about events in Iraq. Why should they start now?
The problem is that when they flee they do not do that in a military convoy fashion, but they regular cars and mix among civilians.

Because the is wedding season in Iraq and we don't want to be responsible for killing brides.
I have no idea and totally agree. We aught to be bombing them into the next century!
I'm a tech sergeant in the Air Force Reserve and I can't for the life of me understand the way we're fighting the war...with one hand tied behind our back, so as not to offend anyone. We've had total air superiority from Day One and yet we can't stop the a-holes from planting roadside bombs all over the place at night? And we're not bombing these a-holes "fleeing" to Syria? The skies should be full of fighters, bombers and manned and unmanned surveillance aircraft. I'm really disappointed in Air Force and DoD leadership.
We should be dropping MOAB's at intervals along these escape routes. Even if we don't hit them, we'll terrify the shit out of them.

Just ask them if they've ever heard the tune "Puff the Magic Dragon," later known as "Spooky." Our C-47 gunships, now appearing as C-130's. Lethal things.
