Cronkite lied and distorted the news every bit as much as Rather, the only difference being there was no internet to challenge or expose his lies.

Cronkite could very well be the reason we had such a well behaved Republican minority in the house and senate back then.

Cronkite lied and distorted every bit as much as Rather. It's just that Uncle Walter was a far better lier than Guga Dan. Cronkite was a master propagandist. Rather is just a media buffoon. Walter wasn't a better liar. When Walter was in the anchor chair, there wasn't an internet, a Free Republic, a Buckhead, a Howlin, a......

There were a small handful of "Gatekeepers" back then who patted "good boys" on the head and gave them a cookie while mercilessly destroying anyone who forgot their place.
Those guys had enormous power and were not afrade to use it.

LBJ was one of the best at this while he was the Senate majority leader. This was probably why Kennedy wanted him as VP, just to put him on ice.

"Rather told the New York Times that he is considering an offer from Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban..."
Or Maybe Dan's daughter can get him a job w/the Texas Democratic Party as a motivational speaker?

Oh yeah, I'm certain he'll be making the rounds in the Tx. dims' circles. I also wouldn't be surprised to see him camping in the ditch with Crazy Cindy this summer in Crawford.

CBS News is working on a primetime special on the newsmans career. It is scheduled to be broadcast sometime this fall. Looks like there will be a lot of archive footage. As far getting anyone inside the network to sing his praises or offer tribute, that may be a difficult job. Ol' Lyin' Dan burned a lot of bridges.
