She knew her speech as valedictorian of Foothill High School would be cut short, but Brittany McComb was determined to tell her fellow graduates what was on her mind and in her heart.
But before she could get to the word in her speech that meant the most to her -- Christ -- her microphone went dead.
The decision to cut short McComb's commencement speech Thursday at The Orleans drew jeers from the nearly 400 graduates and their families that went on for several minutes.

This situation has nothing to do with "what" the girl said; on any other given day, in any public place, she could have claimed that she is the lord god almighty, and experience no trouble. However, she was given the honor to address her senior class by the school administrators; they LET her speak as long as she stayed within bounds. She did not. She was on the SCHOOL's stage using the SCHOOL's mic adressingt the SCHOOL's administrators and her fellow SCHOOL students and their parents. When it is not your stage and not your mic and if you are not the "headliner," you must obey the school's requests. Had this girl really wanted to make a stand, she would have gone to her local newspaper or even fox news, and claimed that the school was editing her speech. Now that would be "freedom of speech."
I am a Foothill High School Senior graduate of 2006 who attended our school's graduation on June 15th.
Brittany had no right to talk about religion in her speech. The school district had the right to cut her off. Our graduation was a publically funded event, and therefore it must separate religion and school, which is stated by the separation of church and state law. Also, it is true that we have freedom of speech, but it is very limited in high school. All our newspapers, yearbooks, and broadcasts are all censored at times. And they are censored for our protection.
Also, While Brittany and her family say they have the entire school backing her up, I am certainly one who does not. I was extremely offended of what she stated, she did not respect or take into consideration mine or other student's beliefs but her own. Our class is made up of many different students from different races, cultures and religions. And she imposed her beliefs on our class, something that was extremely offensive to me. We came to graduate, not to be preached. I respect her beliefs, but it was the wrong time to state them because it was a part of the school, which is a part of the state.
This was not mentioned, but after she spoke, our principal came up and the crowd boo'd her. It was terrible to hear booing at our graduation. Our pricipal is a very nice lady who was only following procedures.
Whoever stated the school is screwed up is WRONG! GO Foothill Falcons!
THEMSELVES even.
But nobody would have noticed her if she had done that.
Instead, she gave her word to the administrators, then went on stage and said what she wanted to say.
IOW, she lied to the administrators.
What's more, her parents think lying is just fine as long as you lie about Jesus.
She was cut off because she lied to the administrators. She agreed to certain conditions, then went back on her word.
A valuable lesson was taught: give your word, keep your word, or suffer the consequences.
Ah, but giving her word to the administrators means something, don't you think? She said she would confine her remarks, then did not.
This little twerp deserves no kudos whatsoever.

There. That's what you're in favor of.
The fact is that there are to be NO LAWS made respecting establishing a religion, a student talking about God is not making a law. There is also to be no PROHIBITING the free exercise of religion. You lefties are always on the wrong side of an issue, Constitutionally speaking
I saw nothing to indicate that she lied. They vetted her speech and she "chose" to ignore their rewrite. If you have found any information that shows she had promised to present their rewrite and then didn't, please post it.
She said, on the TODAY show this morning, that she agreed to present the rewrite, but then felt "compelled" to speak about Jesus.
As usual, sinkspur, you are absolutely correct.
This little lady said, on the TODAY show this morning, that she would give the speech she was given.
She did not do that, thus she is a prevaricator.
The following was written by a recent public high school graduate, and newbie ess06.
Just a few more reasons to homeschool?

Lying in the name of Jesus.
