The time period roughly 6-10 million years ago has few fossils because apes and the rest were all living in forests, which are very poor at creating fossils.

Boo hoo.....

How does we KNOW where they were ALL living???

If there are no fossils, how do we know they were living there at all?

Because a few remains have been found. More will be found. Satellites make it easier to identify likely locations to look.
