Murtha getting wounded in no way qualifies him to set policy.
He hasn't released his military records so we don't know if the wounds were hangnails that he took advantage of or not.

"To me it sounded like Murtha had hired Ted Kennedy as his speech coach."
I think Murtha and Fat Ted were separated at birth. One decided to spend his life in the House and the other, the Senate. What a waste of good blubber!

Murtha is despicable because he pretends to know what he does know.

Okay. My father fought in World War II. He thinks we should stay the course in Iraq. Does that neutralize Murtha? This isn't logic. It is logical fallacy. That said, I'd be willing to put the entire enterprise to a vote of active and retired military.

Isn't knowing something firsthand, a big part of being an expert?
Not really, no. I've experienced flight...but you would not want me at the controls of any craft you are on or even instructing the ground crew on what goes where.

I love how the Viet Nam war has suddenly become honorable to the leftists.
In an ironic sort of way, the troops that fought in Vietnam are finally getting the Welcome Home that they should have gotten decades ago.

Could you imagine a discussion between Murtha and George Patton?

As an extremely personal experience, I think experiencing combat and flying in an aircraft are pretty different.

Pennsylvania congressman Murtha is an authentic and sincere man who knows the horrors of war firsthand. Really? Which battles was he in? My understanding is that during the Vietnam War he was a desk jockey.

I expect that number will jump considerably after an appearance on Fox News and a mention by Rush Limbaugh today. :-)

That they are...but just because I have experienced one or both does not mean that I am now an expert in one or both.

"Anyone uttering "speaks truth to power," unless with a sneer, deserves to be boiled in oil."
BUMP. That includes those who use the phrase in writing as well.
See
Truth to power": deconstructing a phrase
http://neo-neocon.blogspot.com/2005/09/truth-to-power-deconstructing-phrase.html#comments
"First, there's "truth." One of the hallmarks of much leftist thought is the idea of their own moral (not just doctrinal or analytic) superiority. The left's definition of "truth" often seems to be that it consists of whatever they believe to be true. Ergo, whenever they "speak" (word three), it's "truth" by definition; they certainly don't need no steenking facts cluttering up their truth (as in the pesky Memogate)."
"Next, there's "power." The left is all about power differentials. Third-world countries or those perceived as powerless are always right (i.e. "truthful"); powerful countries are always wrong. It's not, of course, just about international relations and countries, it's also about people and economics: poor people=good (powerless), rich people=bad (powerful)."

What an absolutely stupid article.
Murtha is a disgrace. There are very, very few EX-Marines. Murtha is one.
PS ~ and I know you never served . . . or else you wouldn't be writing this crap.
