I've known a lot of people who lost spouses, never met a one who was glad of it or enjoyed it or wouldn't have given everything they had not to have them back. And I've yet to see a quote from any connected with 9/11 who would make me believe otherwise of them.
On the other hand if you think the Jersey Girls are greedy and opportunistic and making money off their loss, then what is Coulter doing that is any different?
The phrase about "enjoying their husbands' deaths" is hyperbole meant to drive home Ann's essential point about liberals' attempts to shut down any debate. It is a legitimate literary device, and it presents the truth about the Jersey Girls using their personal tragedy to take the spotlight and control public discourse.
Ann uses this hyperbole to call the reader's attention to the truth. Judging from all the publicity, she succeeded in her goal.
Maybe not a thing. But that does not take away from the fact that, although she may have stated it in an impolitic way, she was merely stating the Truth. And if its the truth, or even arguably so, then whats the big problem?? Certainly not a legal one; No one is libeled, no one's rights are impinged.
Let's see - Coulter didn't suffer a personal loss that she claims gives her absolute moral authority to pronounce on areas in which she has no expertise.
THAT's the difference.
