Looks like Houston is a mess and things could get a whole lot worse.
How is your part of town looking? Roads? Flooding?
We're in Pearland near where 1128 and 518 (Broadway) intersect. Our yard has a small amount of standing water but all looks well for now.
Oh yeah, I'll never forget those 18-wheelers on Katy - when just the top few inches were showing and when some were completely under water. Amazing.
I take back what I said about not living here during Claudette - I did. It just didn't affect my area where I lived. I did move away the year after that, though. Then back!
In the 90s on the business trip, I was caught in one of those I-10 floodings....traffic just stopped, and the water kept rising. I could see water flowing down the on and off ramps, the levees having overflowed.... I drove my rental Caprice up the side up the embankment to the access road above. Not straight up, but at an angle and I went slow but didnt stop.... There were thousands of cars under water that day...and people seemed frozen in what to do.
Oh, I just switched to Ch 2 and saw the kids playing in the satellite dish in the water before it got sucked under! Yikes.
And wouldn't you know, the Katrina neighbors' kids here are now out "in it" (no flooding here, I guess they feel like fish out of water), yelling and screaming as always.
Might've been a flood in '92 (not the Oct '93 one) or ... who knows. I just remember needing to be at Westheimer and West Loop at a restaurant for a meeting about 4PM and it was impossible to get there.
But most places in Houston, except near Sims or way up NE, if you wait 30 minutes, it will all be gone. Most of the time!
The heavy stuff missed the Southwest side. There was not even much water for hydro-planeing.
Well, Frank Billingsley on Ch 2 said, right before they signed off of flood coverage, that he's predicting 5"-7" more and probably coming after 7PM through the overnight period - and more to the SW section from the MedCenter down to SugarLand.
Yikes! that could very well be the case. Its starting to rain pretty heard here in Conroe.
LOL!!! I think so too!!!!
I've got Ed Brandon on Ch 13 now and he pointed out that this isn't a surface level closed low - it's upper level. If it were surface level, it'd be a TD or maybe TS, with high wind speeds.
He thinks the "eye" is about on top of Humble right now. I still haven't caught Doc Frank on Ch 11 yet (whom I trust the most) and they're back to network.
I'm at work out at 249 near Tomball.. I'll let ya'll know if it starts raining buckets.
Oh, well, he's usually a few degrees cooler on 5-day fcst temps than the other two, so that always makes me happy - even if it's not true. If I *think* it's cooler, it feels cooler, lol.
Is Ed Brandon still around? He was on when I lived there some 20 years ago or so and he didn't look that young then.
ok. I have to go to Greenspoint later on. I am leaving at 5. I don't think they are having any problems are they? Seems like most of the problems are south of Houston.
Yea, I heard Brandon say that too. Yikes I see a truck the nose of the truck completely submerged in the water.

It's quite impressive from the satellite, and it doesn't look like it's going to go away anytime soon.
It wouldn't surprise me to hear that some areas receive over 20 inches of rain before this is done.
Heh heh, yeah, he's still around. I try to avoid. Ummm ... oh, never mind.
Well, now, the latest Ch 13 met, "Tim" (I don't watch most of these Ch 13 mets, so don't know who all they are), said we need to watch what has happened by 10 PM.
He said that if the center of the low has moved down to about Sugar Land by then, we're out of the woods and won't be getting much more. BUT, if it hasn't made it down there by 10PM, then it's sitting on us and will have dropped quite a bit more rain.
I see another headed my way right now; we'll see. It seemed like a ton of rain fell during the night and morning, but my streets are fine and we're only showing to have gotten <1.5" when others got a lot more.
We are getting cabin fever here (Chimney Rock at Memorial) so we are going someplace (anyplace). If you don't hear from me in a few hours, send help. ha!
You coming from The Woodlands or Downtown?
