A 23-feet giant Estuarine crocodile in Orissa has been crowned the world's largest, officials said on Friday, Reuters reports.
The reptile, named Baula Kumbhira (crazy crocodile), lives in Bhitarkanika sanctuary and has entered the Guinness Book of World Records, said SC Mohanty, a top wildlife official.
Three other Estuarine crocodiles at the sanctuary, all measuring over 19-feet, also find a mention on the Guinness website. The sanctuary is home to 1,462 crocodiles.
"There could be bigger crocodiles living in Australia and in the Nile in Africa, but this one's size has been authenticated," said Rathin Banerjee, an expert in crocodile breeding.
These crocodiles can live up to 100 years and are capable of devouring a human being within minutes," he said.
We have an alligator living in one of our ponds that a state wildlife biologist says would probably set a record in Louisiana. It is absolutely huge ... but we would have to catch it to be sure. Gives me the willies every time I see it and I do not wander around at the edge of this pond anymore and don’t even fish from the boat anymore either. One day I’m gonna apply for a tag and eat the darn thing.
LOL! Turning the Rio Grande into a protected crocodile habitat would be a lot cheaper than building a wall. ;)
Should someone incapable of using basic English grammer correctly be calling others “retards” and idiots?
