I guess it depends on where you are , and whether or not you get a lemon of a radio to begin with as far as the quality of reception you get.
Where can I get a Grundig 800? cheap?

Now is the best time to get a Grundig Sat 800, since a newer model has come out, and the 800's quirks worked out. For a cheap one with a little patience in looking, check out the ebay sellers and which ones are creditable, or you can probably get a refurb from Universal Radio, and they're creditable like Crane Co. Instead of the Sat800, take a look at the TenTec RX-320D.
It's a black box that's controlled by a PC program.

Here's the link: http://radio.tentec.com/Amateur/Receivers/TT320

There are some better 3rd party programs, including freeware, that work with it. A couple of them may be
resellers and offer a discount on their software if you buy through them.

Then there's ilgradio.com The have a couple of freeware programs, as well as shortwave schedules, about a month
late, that are free to amateurs with free registration. You can sort on various fields, like "English" and "On-Air Now"
for clickable tuning.
