RNC Response to Rep. John Murtha's Appearance on NBC's Meet The Press

WASHINGTON, June 18 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Following is a release from the Republican National Committee:

"Today, Congressman John Murtha continued to demonstrate an inability to comprehend that surrendering the central front in the War on Terror is not a strategy to defeat the terrorists. Murtha Democrats believe America can't win in Iraq by taking the fight to the terrorists on the ground, but seem to think retreating and fighting from places like Okinawa can achieve victory. John Murtha can focus his attacks on the Commander-in- Chief, however President Bush and Republicans will focus on taking the fight to those who intend to do us harm." -- Danny Diaz, RNC Deputy Communications Director

REP. JOHN MURTHA (D-PA): "WE CAN'T WIN"

Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) Still Pessimistic, Still Supports Withdrawal From Iraq:

Rep. John Murtha: "But there comes a time when you got to change direction, there comes a time when you have to say to yourself, ok, we've done everything we could do. We can't win this militarily." (NBC's "Meet The Press," 6/18/06)

-- Rep. Murtha: "We need to change direction. We can't win a war like this." (NBC's "Meet The Press," 6/18/06)

-- Rep. Murtha: "We don't have to be right there. We can go to Okinawa. We can redeploy there almost instantly. That's a fallacy. That's just a statement to rile up people to support a failed policy wrapped in illusion." (NBC's "Meet The Press," 6/18/06)

Advancements In Iraq Since Rep. Murtha Made His Original Call For Immediate Withdrawal:

Just buried my MIL yesterday at 89. Murtha exhibits the same dementia that I have seen for the last few months of her life. He needs a Marine physical and confinement to a dementia ward.

He has obviously lost it and is now putting the military and
the rest of us in peril.

Yah, placing nuclear carriers and submarines in Okinawa, the Japanese would love that. It is a red tape nightmare for nuclear capable warships (American) to go to Japan, much less stay there for an extended time. This man is an idiot.

All the time and publicity this senile old coot, who obviously suffers from Dementia/Alzheimer's, is given by the media is criminal and it's no wonder the other nations of the world who are able to pick up and listen to these same shows have the wrong opinion of what the U.S. military and government are really doing. Murtha's a main cheerleader for the terrorists and encourages them at every chance he gets which makes him responsible for the deaths of our troops. He should have his name changed officially to 'Murdertha'. He needs to be gagged and led away to a padded cell A.S.A.P.

I think he was talking about "redeploying" (semantics is everything) ground troops to Okinawa. This ignores the situation with the Japanese where they want us to draw down in Okinawa. Rep. Murtha must have slept through those hearings. The Navy will remain in the Gulf for the foreseeable future.

You are correct, though he is an idiot. Even if we were interested in his folly, the U.S. would want to "redeploy" (the bugle call is the same as the one for retreat) to Kuwait, or someplace where we could "respond" to an emerging contingency. Quite honestly, if you wanted to do it right, when we do finally hand over our requirements to the Iraqi Army we should move a formidable force up to the Kurdish areas. It is relatively safe there, no borders to cross, and still within helicopter/C-130 assault distance from the rest of Iraq.

Murtha is taking credit for slick willie's brilliant move to cut and run from Somalia. He thinks that was a good thing.

This morning some despicable reporter from the Wall St. Journal said on CSPIN that the situation in Somalia at the current time is Bush's fault.

WHAT CHUTZPAH

I missed the show, but just reviewed MTP transcript. As far as I could see in a quick read, Russert never mentioned Zarqawi, Murtha said only we could have sent planes in from Okinawa to kill him, Russert never mentioned the follow up raids that are rolling up Al Quada to question whether those could also have been done from Okinawa. Russert was most interested in Rove's NH speech, and whether it was "appropriate" for President's chief advisor to call dems "cut and run." The conceptual disorganization on Russert's part makes me think a tree is about to fall on him.

Marines Do Not Advocate Falling Back Into Defensive Positions - ergo, Murtha Is NOT A Marine!

Who was it at Chosen Resivoir in Korea? "We are not retreating, we are advancing to the rear!" "Gen. Chesty" Puller maybe?

Murtha has lost the Marine spirit, if he ever had it.

He repeatedly said "Okinawa" when he probably meant "Guam"? I think he is senile, and I don't mean that to be unkind. The way he rants this nonsense, I wonder if he is all there.

He is teetering on the edge of full blown nut job. Even Timmy seemed puzzled by his Okinawa response.

Rep. Murtha: "We don't have to be right there. We can go to Okinawa. We can redeploy there almost instantly. That's a fallacy. That's just a statement to rile up people to support a failed policy wrapped in illusion." (NBC's "Meet The Press," 6/18/06) Murtha is talking nonsense and he knows it. I CAN, even at my age, do a back flip. Do you think I'm gonna try?

{It's close, but I think Cynthia McKinney still holds that title.}

While both McKinney and Murtha are certainly competing for the title 'most stupid Congressmember,' I believe Murtha wins. Sadly. Murtha's stupidity presents a grave threat to this country and our soldiers.

That would require at least 12 days of hard steaming by boat or a bunch of aircraft to move from Okinawa to the Gulf, plus days to unload prepositioning ships. I have no idea what he think being in Okinawa can do for us.

Perhaps he thinks the troops could adopt Mr. Miyagi's "Crane" technique - after all, "if do right, no can defense"...

Or I could just suggest Plan B. He's an idiot with a microphone who needs to be defeated. Of course I hope we all know that he won't lose his microphone if he loses his seat. He will be the poster child for the LSM, Code Pinko and every other marxist/socialist organization out there.
