<< RonDog,
I think you already mentioned him, but more mention should be made of Bucky, an attendee at the taping and party. As you mentioned, it was Bucky who picked up the dinner tab for the Navy Corpsman and three Marines who were our guests. >>

Bucky did way better than that. I was there at the end and although, as you'd asked us, Ron, I'd added an extra meal and tip to my tab for our guests, he wouldn't let me help further than that as he picked up the at least Couple of Hundred Bucks for those among us who'd stiffed out on their tabs -- and added a HUGE tip for our helpers and servers.

A truly gracious American Gentleman!

God bless him.

[PS: Who's the lucky lady with that handsome feller in your latest pic, Ron?]

Coulter Cranks It Up, Leno Tanks, Carlin Nods Off

I stayed up way past my bedtime to see the battle royale expected on the Tonight Show, on which Jay Leno welcomed George Carlin and Ann Coulter. I expected verbal fireworks, a stalwart defense of liberalism from Carlin, witty jibes from Leno, and a stream of smart wit from Coulter.

But Leno seemed off-guard from his opening monologue, when mentions of Coulter brought cheers of glee, as did references to conservative causes. He wasn't expecting that kind of response.

Carlin came out first with a fast paced if robotic rap that was verbally clever but not particularly funny. After Carlin got some solo couch time with Leno, Coulter came out in a sleeveless and slinky black dress.

Coulter easily parried Leno's weak queries about her comments on the "Jersey Girls," the 9-11 widows mentioned in her new book, "Godless: The Church of Liberalism." While Carlin sat beside her completely tongue-tied (I was worried that he was nodding off), Coulter handled everything Leno brought up. Asked by Leno if anything critics said hurt her, she replied, quoting Dan Quayle, "I wear their contempt as a badge of honor."

That was it. This was strictly the Coulter show, with Leno baffled and Carlin close to comatose. Sad. Maybe Leno will have to team Coulter with Al Gore next time to get some more sizzling conversation.

Update: The cheering section came from Free Republic members who got into the show. This commentary adds details and squares with my impression of the show.
